Approximately 300 fragments of recipe slips have been recovered in Huxishan tomb one,in Yuanling,Hunan,assigned the title “Shi fang”.Because of the serious decay when excavated,there is no a single unbroken slip.“Shi fang” is a manuscript of cooking recipes and is an important new source for studying the evidence of cooking and food in the Western Han.The text is divided into three chapters.Chapter one formulates new meaning and sentence interpretation of “Shi fang”.We are trying to untangle the all sorts of scholars’ opinions,in order to further advance the existing discussion,the controversial points are highlighted.Chapter two is classification of the foods recorded in the funerary documents.Chapter three is elaboration,discussing about the characteristics of the bamboo slips in the Western Han Dynasty and the dietetic culture they reflects.
