Objective: to compare the difference of corneal high-order wavefront aberrations between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic dry eye patients.to explore the reasons for the decline of visual quality in elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes compared with non-diabetic elderly dry eye patients. Methods: From October 2018 to October 2019,66 patients aged between60 and 80 were diagnosed with xerophthalmia,32 with type 2 diabetes and 34 with non-diabetes.Pentacam anterior segment analysis system(Oculus,Germany)was used to measure and recordthe aberration data of total high-order corneal aberration, horizontal coma, vertical coma, spherical aberration, horizontal clover aberration and tilted clover aberration were recorded.Independent sample t-test was used to compare the corneal aberration between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic dry eye patients. Results: Total high-order aberration of cornea: There is no statisticallysignificant difference in total high-order aberration of cornea between elderly dry eyepatients with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic elderly dry eyepatients(0.627± 0.220 vs 0.562 ± 0.150,P >0.05),cornealhorizontalcoma aberration: There is a statistically significant difference in thehorizontalcoma aberration between elderly dry eyepatients with type 2 diabetes and elderly dry eyepatients with non-diabetic(0.141 ± 0.147 vs 0.096 ± 0.077,P <0.05);Cornea vertical coma:There is no statistical difference in vertical coma between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic elderly dry eyes patients(0.280 ±0.402 vs 0.230 ± 0.158,P> 0.05);corneal horizontal clover aberration : There is no statistical difference in the horizontal clover aberration between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes and elderly dry eye patients with non-diabetes(0.128 ± 0.156 vs 0.118 ± 0.110,P >0.05);corneal tilted clover aberration :There is no statistical difference in tilted clover aberration between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and non-diabetics elderly dry eye patients(0.210 ± 0.216 vs 0.161 ± 0.141,P> 0.05);corneal spherical aberration:There is no statistical difference in corneal spherical aberration between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and non-diabetics elderly dry eye patients(0.330 ± 0.138 vs 0.317 ± 0.120,P> 0.05).Corneal total high-order aberration, corneal vertical coma, corneal horizontal clover aberration and corneal tilted clover aberration, corneal spherical aberration root mean square value comparison, the difference is not statistically significant. There is a statistically significant difference in the horizontal coma between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic elderly dry eye patients, and the elderly dry eye patients group with type 2 diabetes is higher than the non-diabetic elderly dry eye patients group. Conclusion:There are differences in high-order wavefront aberrations between elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes and non-diabeticelderly dry eye patients, and the difference is mainly due to the increase of horizontal coma, which is a possible factor leading to the decrease of visual quality in elderly dry eye patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
