| How the ancients viewed the epidemic and how they treated the epidemic reflected the ancients’ view of life and death and the outlook on the universe. This is an important part of the social thinking of the Han Dynasty. Therefore, the research on the subject of the epidemic is one of the ways to explore the thinking of the Han people. The theory of disease caused by ghosts and gods has always been the mainstream thought of the theory of disease, which promoted various kinds of witchcraft to dispel and cure diseases. However, with the deepening of the observation and research on human body, disease and other life sciences, people gradually generated the etiology theory of Yin and Yang and the five elements through the observation of nature to explore the universe, heaven and earth, and gradually formed the theoretical basis of traditional Chinese medicine. In addition to exploring the Han people’s view of disease, this article will examine such images from the perspective of art history. The article is divided into three parts.Three themes in Han paintings are selected for research. They are the image of Fang Xiangshi, the image of the human head and bird body(Bian Que)in the Han painting, and the image of the pill in the Han painting.Corresponding to the two reactions of Han people when facing the epidemic—witches and doctors. Before the Han and early Han,the "epidemic ghost theory" view of disease was the mainstream,so people used the scene of exorcising ghosts and Fang Xiangshi’s picture for comfort, but the image of Fang Xiangshi was often confused with another image—Chi You.In the absence of a clear list title prompt, this article distinguishes the two images and the relationship between them through mutual verification of pictures and texts. With the formation of the "Qi-Yin-Yang-Five Elements" disease concept,TCM theory and herbal medicine gradually emerged from the witchcraft and began to become independent disciplines. There have been many images and archaeological remains related to magical doctors, immortals and medical treatments in Han paintings, but there are still some misunderstandings in the image research. This article is to raise some objections to the past research results and explain the new achievements. In addition, the article also discusses the image of the elixir shown in the Han paintings, which can be divided into two categories, one is the immortal elixir in the fairy tale world of the Han Dynasty, and the other is the alchemy elixir refined by the alchemist. It can be seen that the vigorous development of TCM and herbal medicine can be seen at this time,it is undeniable that although medicine came out of witches, the connection with witches has not been completely cut off. |
