| The adoption of electronic payments(e payment) for health service delivery in a developing country like Ghana remains an essential area of investigation in information technology system research. This lifecycle of e-payment adoption presence inspires curiosity to explore the various determinants that influence e-payment adoption in Ghana’s health service delivery.Factors propelling health guarantors towards e-payment adoption have proved to be very important in the dispensation of information technology(IT)and information system(IS)research. The core objective of this study was to empirically examine health guarantors(customers)perspective of the factors that influence Ghana’s e-payment adoption at Ghana’s referrals hospitals. It also seeks to find out the health guarantor’s preference of payments systems, lastly, this study examine the adoption of electronic payment systems of hospital bills in Ghana’s referral hospitals. The study employed a quantitative survey and a sample size of 150 health guarantor from Korle-bu Teaching Hospital,Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Cape Coast Regional Hospita in the Ghana. The obtained data from structured questionnaire, which was built on 5-point likert scale, was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS)Statistics24.0 version to excerpt the results. The empirical results from the study revealed that two thirds of the health guarantor preferred to make payment using EPS than using fiscal cash. This suggest that most Ghanaian Health guarantors have the tendency of using EPS indicating ease of using EPS.The outcome of the study also asserted that Health guarantors with higher education were more likely to adopt new technologies more than those with lower education. From the findings, even though, majority of the guarantors preferred the use of the electronic payment system in making payments for the medical services, there are also quite a number who really do not care which payment system available at their disposal be it cash or electronic payment systems in paying for medical bills.Similarly,in examine guarantors’ intention to use electronic payment systems(EPS),the outcome shows that most of the Health guarantors had the intention to use EPS.It was concluded that majority of the Health guarantors prefer and had experience in the behavioral intention of using EPS.Predictors of behavioral intention to use electronic payment systems were attitude toward EPS and ease of use of EPS.Again, the finding of the study asserts that in examining the factors that influence guarantors to use electronic payment systems(EPS),perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, behavioral intention to use electronic payment systems and guarantor’s attitude towards EPS were the predictors of guarantors’ use of electronic payment systems. This indicates that All the five TAM model were supported, demonstrating that perceived ease of use(PEOU)of EPS influence perceived usefulness(PU)and both PEOU and PU influenced attitude toward EPS and also both PU and attitude toward EPS ultimately influenced behavioral intention to use EPS.Predictors of behavioral intention to use electronic payment systems were attitude toward EPS and ease of use of EPS.On the challenges that confronts the adoption of electronic payment systems, the study identified the most common challenges of implementing electronic payment systems in hospitals included the unreliable internet access, unreliable power supply, weak technological infrastructure, cost of the technology among others. |
