Objective: Neck pain is a very common disease.Due to the daily work tasks and the nature of work of college staff,they generally have chronic neck pain,which has affected their health and fitness.To our knowledge,there was a few studies to examine the relationship between physical fitness and musculoskeletal pain among college staff with chronic neck pain.Therefore,the purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of chronic neck pain in Dalian University of Technology staff,and to further explore the relationship between chronic neck pain and health-related physical fitness.Methods: According to inclusion and exclusion criteria,60 subjects were recruited for this study,including 30 in the chronic neck pain group and 30 in the healthy control group.Body composition,grip strength,sitting body flexion,shoulder joint flexibility,cardiopulmonary endurance and neck muscle endurance of participants in both groups were collected based on Neck Disability Index and visual analog score.The independent sample t test was used to analyze the differences of health-related physical fitness between the chronic neck pain group and the healthy control group.Pearson correlation analysis and partial correlation analysis were used to explore the relationship between the degree of neck pain and health-related physical fitness.Results: 1)Epidemic status: The incidence of chronic neck pain among college and university staff was 48.02%,with mild and moderate neck dysfunction as the main cases.2)Characteristics of healthy body fitness: the content of standardized subcutaneous fat in chronic neck pain group was significantly higher than that in healthy control group(p <0.05),and the trunk muscle content was significantly lower than that of healthy control group(p <0.05);The standardized grip strength,neck flexor endurance and extensor endurance of chronic neck pain group were significantly lower than those of healthy control group(p <0.05);Right shoulder flexibility was significantly worse in the chronic neck pain group than in the healthy control group(p <0.05);The absolute maximum oxygen uptake in the chronic neck pain group was significantly lower than that in the healthy group(p <0.05).3)The relationship between health-related physical fitness and neck pain: with or without adjustment for age,sex and BMI,the visceral fat area and waist-hip ratio were significantly positively correlated with the NDI results(p <0.05);There was a significant negative correlation between cervical extensor endurance and VAS(p <0.05);After adjusting for age,sex,and BMI,there was a significant negative correlation between the ratio of muscle mass and the NDI results(p <0.05),the VAS score was significantly negatively correlated with the flexibility of the right shoulder(p <0.05).Conclusions: 1)The incidence of chronic neck pain is high among college and university staff,and neck dysfunction is mainly mild or moderate.Attention should be paid to the related health problems of this group in daily life.2)The muscle endurance of neck flexor muscle and extensor muscle in chronic neck pain patients decreased significantly,especially the neck extensor muscle endurance was significantly related to neck dysfunction,so the training of neck function should be paid attention to in both prevention and rehabilitation.3)chronic neck pain of human body fat content is higher,the trunk muscle content is low,the grip strength is low,vo2 Max absolute value is low,so in the rehabilitation training,should not only pay attention to the neck function of exercise,the strengthening of systemic movement should be more strengthened,pay attention to the ascension of muscle mass,improve the quality of the chronic neck pain of human body.4)The relationship between physical fitness and chronic neck pain indicated that visceral fat area,waist-hip ratio and chronic neck pain were mutually affected;In addition,chronic neck pain can affect not only neck function,but also shoulder flexibility.
