Objective Previous studies have suggested additional cardiovascular protection effects of sodium glucose cotransporter-2(SGLT2)inhibitors;however,results on lipid profile are controversial. Thus, this meta-analysis aimed to determine the effect of SGLT2 inhibitors treatment on lipid profile in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods A comprehensive search was conducted in Pub Med,EMBASE and Cochrane library databases. All randomized controlled trials of SGLT2 inhibitors in the treatment of adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were collected, and the data was extracted for meta-analysis by revman5.4.1 software. Results A total of 43 articles involving 18895 patients were included.Meta-analysis showed that SGLT2 inhibitors increased TC(WMD = 0.11,95% CI 0.08~0.15,P < 0.00001),HDL-C(WMD = 0.05,95% CI0.04~0.06,P < 0.00001),LDL-C(WMD = 0.09,95% CI 0.07~0.11,P <0.00001)and decreased TG(WMD =-0.07,95% CI-0.11~-0.03,P <0.0001)compared with the control group. Conclusion SGLT2 inhibitor can increase the levels of TC,HDL-C and LDL-C,and decrease the TG levels.
