Objectives: EDSS and MOCA are both commonly used clinical tools to assess multiple sclerosis, but they have certain shortcomings. The Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite is an alternative scale for EDSS,which can measure the motor and cognitive function of multiple sclerosis. In recent years,it has been increasingly used in science study. This study used the above three scales to assess patients with multiple sclerosis, analyzed the acquired data and discussed advantages and disadvantages of MSFC compared with EDSS and MOCA,to help clinicians to choose proper tools for multiple sclerosis.Method: This study selected 20 patients with multiple sclerosis who visited the First Hospital of China Medical University from December 2019 to October 2020,all of which met the 2017 revised Mc Donald diagnostic criteria. We summarized and analyzed clinical data, which included gender and onset age, disease course, education level, clinical manifestations, serology data, evoked potentials and imaging, etc. Each patient was assessed with MSFC,EDSS and MOCA.We used the correlation analysis to explore the correlation between them.Results:1.Of the enrolled MS patients,13 were female and 7 were male(1.86:1),with an average age of(31.9±9.33)years.The onset age of MS ranged from 18 to 48 years, and disease course ranged from 0 to 13 years.Patients had Educational level of high school to doctor. The most common type in MS was Relapsing-remitting,accounted for 70%.16patients(80%)had sensory symptoms, and lateral paraventricular is the most common lesions in imaging(90%).Most CSF-test results were among the normal valve, protein ranging from 166 to 573(mg/L)could be slightly high, and Average cell number of14.19×10`6/L was higher than normal.10 patients(58.82%)had positive CSF oligoclonal-protein,and 13 had abnormal evoked potential(81.25%).2.Correlation analysis:EDSS was associated with T25 W,MOCA,PASAT and ZMSFC(r=0.599,p=0.01;r=-0.475,P=0.03;r=-0.504,p=0.02;r=-0.564,p=0.01);MOCA was related with ZMSFC and PASAT(r=0.520,P=0.02;r=-0.504,p=0.02;r=0.581,p=0.07);T25W was related with MOCA and PASAT(r=-0.601,p=0.00;r=-0.533,p=0.02).Conclusion: 1.MSFC was negatively related with EDSS,and positively related with MOCA.MSFC may replace EDSS and MOCA to evaluate MS.2.It`s convenient using T25 W,9HPT,EDSS and MOCA to assess MS clinically; As most patients dislike 9HPT,it maybe difficult to use it clinically.3.Besides,the study found that T25 W is negatively correlated with MOCA and PASAT,which indicates there may be a correlation between the motor and cognitive function of MS. |
