Research On The Impact Of Intergenerational Care On The Health Status Of The Elderly In China

With the introduction of the "three child" policy and China’s imperfect supporting social care policies,more and more elderly people have assumed the important task of taking care of their children in the family.Under the influence of traditional culture,intergenerational care has generally existed in China’s model for a long time in the past,and taking care of children will directly affect the health of elderly parents.However,with the overall improvement of the health level of the elderly population,the number of the elderly population is also increasing steadily.In addition,ideological changes and lifestyle have brought more complex problems to the elderly,which will also directly affect the implementation of national supporting policies.Based on the background of "healthy aging",the comprehensive implementation of the two child policy,the introduction of the system of delayed retirement policy,the introduction of the three child policy,and the decision-making and deployment of "actively responding to population aging" made since the 18 th CPC National Congress,we urgently need to pay attention to the relationship between intergenerational care of the elderly and their own health status.On this basis,taking the very popular phenomenon of intergenerational care for the elderly as the starting point,this study discusses whether the traditional family support behavior of intergenerational care has led to the change of the health status of the elderly under the current positive aging environment.In order to enhance the depth of the research,by combining reality and theory,This paper selects the intergenerational of children to deeply explore the indirect impact on the health status of the elderly.The demonstration of this paper is mainly divided into two parts: firstly,simple benchmark regression is used to analyze the impact of participating in intergenerational care on the health status of the elderly.On this basis,it further analyzes the role of children’s intergenerational support as an intermediary variable.First,select the 2018 China Health and endowment Survey（CHARLS）data,draw lessons from the existing literature index structure,build the elderly health index,from gender,registered residence and age three levels of health description;Based on this,taking the health index of the elderly as the dependent variable,this paper uses benchmark regression to investigate the impact of the main variables of intergenerational care of the elderly on the dependent variable,and uses covariates to analyze the heterogeneity of the elderly;In addition,using propensity score matching to avoid the endogeneity caused by the self selection of the elderly;Finally,the KHB analysis model is used to further decompose the intermediary contribution rate of children’s intergenerational emotional and economic support to the impact of intergenerational care on the health status of the elderly.Finally,actively respond to the national policy background,break through the shackles of realistic conditions,formulate policies in line with the future policy trend,and put forward practical suggestions.Conclusions:（1）whether to participate in intergenerational care as a key independent variable,intergenerational care for the elderly is conducive to the health status of the elderly.（2）When the intensity of intergenerational care for the elderly is taken as an independent variable,intergenerational care first improves and then weakens the health status of the elderly,showing an "inverted U-shaped".（3）There is heterogeneity,which has a positive impact on the health status of female samples;Besides,the elderly registered by the registered residence in agriculture is more effective than the non registered residence.（4）There is a mediating effect.Children’s intergenerational support improves the health status of the elderly,and the effect of emotional support is more prominent.Based on the above research conclusions,the following three suggestions are put forward: first,supporting intergenerational care services for the elderly;Second,improve the elderly care support services for family children;Third,formulate retirement policies according to local and personal conditions.
