| Objective: The purpose of this article is to observe the change of upper airway dimensions through applying edge-wise appliance in class Ⅱ malocclusion patients.Materials and methods: 36 patients,aging 11 to 15,were taken CBCT before and after orthodontic treatment.CBCTs were categoried into two groups: Group 1(before treatment)and Group 2(after treatment).Then,introducing all the CBCTs into Osiri X software to measure upper airway dimensions.Upper airway was divided into three parts: the level of nasal floor,the level of maxillary central incisor and the level of menton.The data collected by CBCT were analysed by SPSS Statistics 23 Software.Results: The results showed that the dimension of nasopharynx,oropharynx and pharyngeal pharynx were enlarged in separate degrees.The expansion of nasopharynx and pharyngeal pharynx was the most obvious in sagittal direction.On the contrary,the most changeable expansion in coronal direction was oropharynx.Conclusions: The upper airway expansion was appeared in both sagittal and coronal direction after orthodontic treatment using edge-wise appliance.The results provide a feasible possibility in curing peaditric OSAS using orthodontic treatment. |
