A Study On "Yuet Wa Po·Medicine And Health" And Daily Disease Problems(1927-1950)

The medical and health field has witnessed the dramatic alternation and transformation of the old society in the Republic of China.Specific to the area of Guangzhou,the government-level medical and health administration has made great progress.However,the change cannot be felt obviously by those ordinary people at the bottom of society.On the one hand,they have to continue to endure the harsh living environment;on the other hand,the populace lack effective channels to obtain and update medical concepts,leading to their daily activities of diseases still stuck in the old ways.Medical and Health of Yuet Wa Po came into being in this context and it not only provides ordinary citizens with a common platform to seek medical advice,but also opens up a space for doctor-patient interval dialogues.The existence of tens of thousands of historical materials about medical affairs and health gives us a vivid picture of ordinary people dealing with daily diseases in Republic of China and provides a unique "bottom-up" perspective for the study of medical social history.The main topic of this article is to use the Medical and Health of Yuet Wa Po as the main line to discuss the problems of daily diseases of people.Apart from the introduction and conclusion,the main body of the article includes four chapters.The first part mainly introduces the background,general situation and historical value of the Medical and Health.The second part takes the people’s attribution and expression of the disease in the questioning letter as the research object,reveling the social and cultural factors behind the people’s concept of disease.The third part mainly discusses the lack of women’s subjectivity in daily disease,including the dilemma of women’s self-expression,the language characteristics of disease expression,the gender tendency of women’s disease and the idea of chastity and women’s disease.Combining the current popular medical books,the fourth part takes the nervous breakdown as the research object and demonstrates the public’s doubts and fears of it.From the perspective of daily life history,Comparing and observing the medical behaviors of ordinary people recorded in the Medical and Health of the Yuet Wa Po over a long period of time,which not only shows the communication and interaction between patients and doctors,family members and friends in the history,but also makes the "little figure" under the "grand history" get attention.We should know that the individuals and groups who constitute statistical data are fresh,blood and emotional lives and they are the main body of daily disease activities.We must avoid making them into neglected historical individual in macro historical narratives.
