[Purpose] This study was designed to explore the real nursing needs and the level of satisfaction of traumatic inpatients.Main influencing factors were analyzed to determine the problems or challenges in nursing care.In order to provide evidences for traumatic center managers to explore a better model for improving quality of nursing and to provide precise care for patients to meet their demands.[Methods]1.Literature review: the domestic and foreign researches and investigations related to care services demand were reviewed to determine the supportive theory and direct this study.Based upon the literature review and study framework,main dimensions and items of original questionnaire were generated.2.Delphi method: according to the selection criteria,fifteen experts were invited to evaluate the items in the questionnaire separately.After two rounds of expert consultation,the final questionnaire was formed.3.Questionnaire survey: using the cross-sectional study method and convenience sampling,235 inpatients from a trauma center in central China were invited to conduct the questionnaire survey.4.Statistical analysis method: Excel software was used to establish the database,and SPSS20.0 software was used to conduct the statistical analysis in this study.Descriptive analysis is described by means,standard deviation,percentage.T test and variance analysis were used to test the difference between groups where appropriate.Multiple stepwise regression was used to analyze the influencing factors.[Results]1.The strongest needs for nursing of trauma inpatients was self-esteem demanddimension(4.57±0.27),followed by safety demand dimension(4.47±0.35),love and belonging demand dimension(4.47±0.41),physiological demand dimension(4.08±0.41)and self realization demand dimension(3.54±0.69).The level of demand satisfaction from high to low were safety demand dimension(4.87±0.02),self-esteem demand dimension(4.85±0.05),love and belonging demand dimension(4.84±0.05),self realization demand dimension(4.84±0.03)and physiological demand dimension(4.79±0.08).2.Trauma patients with different age,number of children,education level,caregivers,injury severity,trauma intensive care unit experience,injury areas,payment methods,and commonalities have different nursing demand dimensions.The injury severity,trauma intensive care unit experience and destinations after discharge were significantly related to the demand for nursing services(P<0.05).[Conclusions]1.The nursing service needs of trauma inpatients are extensive and significantly different.Age,number of children,education level,caregivers,injury severity,trauma intensive care unit experience,injured areas,payment method and comorbidities are the factors influencing the type of nursing service demand of patients.The more severe of injury,having experience in trauma intensive care unit,and the better hospital they were transferred to after discharge were associated with higher demand for nursing services.2.Although the needs of nursing service for trauma inpatients were satisfied,they could be potentially improved.Nursing managers should create a warm and comfortable nursing environment to enhance the confidence of trauma patients;pay attention to the psychological experience of trauma patients during the nursing process;provide personalized nursing to meet their individual demand;establish a good relationship between nurses and patients to promote communication;and carry out health education activities to improve the self-care abilities of patients and their families.
