| ObjectiveTo investigate the knowledge and recognition about the latest sepsis guidelines and to identify the influencing factors in emergency nurses from tertiary hospitals. To determine the effects of mind mapping teaching method in improving the knowledge of sepsis guidelines for emergency nurses, and to provide reference for nursing managers to carry out nursing training. Methods:First,a cluster sampling survey was conducted. On the basis of literature review and expert consultation, the " Questionnaire of knowledge on Sepsis Guideline" was developed with the reliability and validity test.Emergency department nurses from 10 tertiary hospitals were enrolled for this survey. The descriptive statistics,t test,chi-square test, correlation analysis, multiple linear step ward regression analysis and other statistical methods were used to analysis the knowledge on the latest sepsis guidelines among emergency nurses.Second,a quasi-experimental trial was conducted.A sample of emergency department nurses from a tertiary hospital in November 2019 was divided into two groups according to the scheduling turn shift. The experimental group was trained using the mind mapping teaching method, and the control group was trained using the traditional training method. The training content was focus on “International Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock: 2016”.The duration of training was 4 weeks and once a week. Before and after intervention, the emergency nurses were evaluated with " Questionnaire of knowledge on Sepsis Guideline " and the “Williams Creativity Propensity Scale”.In addition, the nurses in the experimental group were evaluated the subjective assessment of mind mapping teaching using questionnaire,to investigate. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS24.0 statistical software. Results:A total of 410 questionnaires were distributed and finally 396 valid questionnaires were received. After analysis, the results showed that the average score of the questionnaire in emergency nurses was 21.37±7.71(Total: 44 points). The master degree of the emergency nurses’ knowledge in each dimension on“Questionnaire of knowledge on Sepsis Guideline” were all less than 60%.Only18.0% of emergency nurses have been received relevant knowledge training.First,in correlation analysis, the questionnaire scores in emergency nurses were positively correlated with gender and professional title(r=0.161,P=0.001;r=0.171,P=0.001),and there was no significant correlation with the age, working years and educational level(P>0.05).Second,in multiple linear step ward regression analysis, gender, age and professional title were significant factors for the knowledge level on sepsis guidelines in emergency nurses(P<0.05).A total of 59 emergency nurses were enrolled in our study, among them 30 in the experimental group and 29 in the control group. Before the intervention, there were no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group on baseline characteristics, questionnaire scores, creativity propensity(P>0.05).After the intervention, the questionnaire scores have significantly increased both in the experimental group and control group, and the increase amplitude of experimental group’s questionnaire scores(P=0.001),total scores on creativity propensity(P=0.009),imagination score(P=0.016),challenging score(P=0.003)were all significant higher than control group. However, there was no significant differences in increasing amplitude of risk scores and curious scores between the two groups(P>0.05).Questionnaire scores of emergency nurses were correlated with their total scores of creativity propensity and scores in all dimensions(P<0.001).Conclusion:The overall knowledge of emergency nurses on sepsis guidelines was poor.Gender, age and professional title were influence factors of their knowledge on sepsis guideline knowledgel.Clinical managers should pay attention to improving the knowledge level of emergency nurses on sepsis guidelines.Mind mapping teaching method is an effective method in emergency nurses’ training teaching, which could effectively enhance the level of emergency nurses’ sepsis knowledge and creativity propensity. These results could prompt nursing managers to adopt mind mapping training mode to emergency nurses’ training, and could arouse the enthusiasm of nurses to learn new knowledge, and further improve their clinical ability. |
