Analysis Of Clinical Characteristics And Endoscopic Surgical Efficacy Of Fungal Ball Sinusitis

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of fungal ball sinusitis and to assess the treatment effect of endoscopic surgery for fungal ball sinusitis.Methods 78 patients with fungal ball sinusitis during October 2017 to November 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.Based on different operations they undergone,all patients were classified into two groups: 63 patients were in endoscopic sinus surgery group(ESS group),and 15 patients in the group of endoscopic sinus surgery with balloon sinuplasty(ESS + BS group).All patients received nasal stuffing,nasal irrigation and 3-12 months follow-up period after surgery.The postoperative efficacy,the degree of subjective symptom relief and the degree of postoperative nasal mucosa recovery were evaluated using the visual analogue scale(VAS)and the nasal endoscopic Lund-Kennedy scale.SPSS21.0 software was used for statistical analysis of the data.Results-There were 37 male patients and 41 female patients enrolled in the present study,with an average age of 54.92 years.The main clinical symptoms were nasal congestion,followed by pus stuff.24 cases were with concomitant nasal polyps growth and 51 cases with deviated nasal septum.The results of sinus CT showed that most cases occurred in unilateral sinus.There was no significant difference in the effective rate of the ESS group(96.36%)compared with the effective rate of the ESS + BS group(100%).Compared with the ESS group,patients in the ESS + BS group had significantly better subjective feelings at the time 1 month after surgery.In addition,nasal mucosa of patients in the ESS + BS group recovered better at 1 and 3 months after surgery than those in the ESS group based on the Lund-Kennedy score.Conclusion Fungal ball sinusitis is a kind of disease with a variety of clinical symptoms,which mainly occurs in unilateral sinus.CT scan is an important basis for preoperative diagnosis of the fungal ball sinusitis.Compared with classical endoscopic sinus surgery,the recovery time of patients underwent the intraoperative combined balloon dilatation was significantly shorter.In addition,patients acquired better quality of life in the latter group.
