Clinical Effect Of Huanglian Zhuyu Decoction On TCM Type Of Phlegm And Blood Stasis In Metabolic Syndrome

Objectives:(1)To observe and evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Huanglian Zhuyu Decoction on the treatment for TCM type of Phlegm and Blood Stasis in Metabolic Syndrome.(2)To discuss the effect of Huanglian Zhuyu Decoction reducing the level of inflammatory factors may be one of its mechanisms in treating TCM type of Phlegm and Blood Stasis in Metabolic Syndrome.Methods:In the present study,sixty-two patients with metabolic syndrome(phlegm and blood stasis type)who met the criteria were randomly divided into treatment group and control group with thirty-one cases in each group.The patients in the control group were treated with lifestyle intervention and taking metformin and atorvastatin,while the patients in the treatment group were added taking Huanglian Zhuyu Decoction based on the same treatment with the control group.Both the groups attended eight weeks’ treatment.Some indicators,including waist circumferences,blood glucoses,blood lipids,C-reactive protein(CRP)and the grades of TCM syndromes were measured before and after the treatments.Results:(1)There were no significant differences in all indicators between the two groups before intervention(P>0.05).(2)Waist circumferences of both groups were significantly decreased than those before treatment(P<0.05),and the improvement in the treatment group was more evident than the control group(P<0.05).(3)The indicator of blood glucose of both groups after the treatment were significantly reduced than those before the treatment(P<0.05),and the value of the treatment group was more improved compared with that of the control group(P<0.05).(4)All the indicators of blood lipids of the treatment group were significantly improved after the treatment(P<0.05),and TC and LDL-C in the control group were also decreased significantly(P<0.05),whereas the values of TG and HDL-C in the control group were not significantly changed after the treatment(P>0.05).Noticeably,the values of TG,HDL-C and TC of the treatment group showed statistically significant improvement compared with those of the control group after the treatment(P<0.05)except for the value of LDL-C(P>0.05).(5)Both the CRP levels of the two groups were lower than those before the treatments and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).And CRP level of the treatment group was significantly decreased than that of the control group(P<0.01).(6)The effective rates of the TCM syndrome in the treatment group and the control group were 86.67% and 63.33%,respectively.And the curative effect in the treatment group was better than that of the control group with statistical significance(P<0.05).(7)There were not evident abnormality on the safety indicators in the two groups during the intervention period.Also no obvious symptoms and adverse reactions presented.Conclusions:(1)Huanglian Zhuyu Decoction reduced CRP level,relieved inflammatory reaction,regulated glucose and lipid metabolism,improved clinical symptoms,thereby treating metabolic syndrome,which could be related with the effect of decreasing inflammatory factors of Huanglian Zhuyu Decoction.(2)Huanglian Zhuyu Decoction had definite clinical efficacy with good safety in the treatment for TCM type of Phlegm and Blood Stasis in Metabolic Syndrome.It is worthy of further clinical application.
