ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical effect of Qi Huang acupuncture therapy and explore a safe, effective and easily popularized treatment for patients with Parkinson’s disease.MethodsAccording to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,60 patients with Parkinson’s disease were selected from the outpatient department of acupuncture in the first affiliated hospital of Guangzhou university of Chinese medicine and the outpatient department of encephalopathy in No.2 Guangzhou TCM hospital. They were randomly assigned into the treatment group(Qi-huang needle therapy group)and the control group(Traditional filiform needling group)that were both under the routine treatment with Medobar tablets at a ratio of 1:1 for a duration of 4 weeks. Before treatment(at the 0 week),after treatment(at the 4 week),and 1 monthafter treatment(at the 8 week)three scales would be required incluiding the third part of Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS Ⅲ),the Non-Motor Symptoms Scale(NMSS),and Parkinson’ s disease quality of life(PDQ-39).Results(1)60 subjects were included, among which two cases were shed and 58 cases were finally accomplished the whole process and analysis(29 each group).(2)Before treatment, the difference in patients’ gender,age,course,H-Y stage, drug usage, adverse habits, exposure history, medical history, living environment and the scroes of UPDRS Ⅲ,NMSS and PDQ-39 between the trial group and the control group was not statistically significant(P>0.05),which was comparable.(3)Before treatment, the total effective rate of the trial group was 75.86%while the control group was 44.83%.The difference in efficacy between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05),indicating that the overall efficacy of Qi-huang needle therapy was better than that of traditional acupuncture therapy.Total score of the UPDRS Ⅲ、NMSS and PDQ-39 of two groups were lower than the ones before treatment(P<0.05),indicating both Qi-huang acupuncture and conventional filiform needling therapy can effectively improve the patient’ s symptoms. But the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05)suggested that Qihuang needle therapy have more advantages over the traditional one.(4)Datas in follw-up of three scales described above showed no significant deterioration(P>0.05)compared with the results after treatment, indicating that the efficacy of Qihuang acupuncture therapy and traditional filliform acupuncture therapy could be maintained for at least one month.ConclusionQihuang acupuncture and filiform acupuncture can significantly improve the motor and non-motor symptoms of patients with Parkinson’s disease as well as enhance the quality of daily life, but the overall curative effect of Qihuang acupuncture is superior than that of traditional one. With the merits of superior security, less acupoints application and no needle retention,it is worthy to widerly clinical used.
