| Backgroud&Aim:Gastromal stromal tumors(GIST)is a common gastrointestinal tumor. It is not considered as a benign or malignant tumor, but the malignant potential of gastrointestinal stromal tumors is assessed according to the risk grade.High galectin-1 expression in most cancers is known to indicate high malignant potential and poor prognosis. The GEO database was used to search the correlation between Galectin and GIST,and some data showed that Galectin-1 was highly expressed in GIST.However, studies on galectin-1 in stromal tumors are relatively rare, and there are few literatures on the expression of galectin-1 in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and its role.By detecting the expression of galectin-1 in GIST tumor tissues, the relationship between the expression of galectin-1 in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and clinical manifestations, recurrence, prognosis and risk was explored, hoping to be helpful to the formulation of comprehensive follow-up treatment plan for patients with stromal tumors after surgery.Methods:68 tumor tissue specimens from patients with stromal tumors who underwent surgical treatment in Jiangsu People’s Hospital from July 2015 to May 2017 were selected and made into paraffin specimens.Immunohistochemical method was used to measure the expression of Galectin-1 in tumor tissues.SPSS22.0 software was used for data analysis. Results:A total of 68 GIST patients were included, including 34 patients(50.0%)with weak positive galectin-1 expression,17 patients(25.0%)with moderate positive galectin-1 expression, and 17 patients(25.0%)with strong positive galectin-1 expression. There were no statistically significant differences in galectin-1 expression among different levels of gender, age and BMI(P>0.05),but there were statistically significant differences in surgical method, preoperative tumor size, preoperative gastrointestinal bleeding, preoperative invasion or metastasis, actual length of hospital stay, intraoperative blood loss and risk grade(P<0.05).The expression of Galectin-1 was statistically significant in anatomical site, longest diameter of tumor, number of mitotic images, rupture and hemorrhage, and necrosis(P<0.05),but no statistically significant in histological types,CD 117,Dog-1,CD34,SMA,Desmin,S100,and Ki67(P>0.05).Patients with strong positive galectin-1 expression had a higher recurrence rate than patients with low galectin-1 expression, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:Galectin-1 is of great significance as an indicator to judge the malignant potential of GIST tumors and the survival of postoperative recurrence. It can be used as an auxiliary standard other than risk classification, which can help to more accurately judge the malignant potential of GIST and help guide the formulation of postoperative treatment plan.Galectin-1 is closely related to the prognosis of GIST patients, and Galectin-1 may provide a new idea for the diagnosis and treatment of GIST. |
