Objective: The overexpression of kinesin family member 23(KIF23)is common in many malignant tumors, such as glioma, breast cancer,non-small cell lung cancer and paclitaxel-resistant gastric cancer. However,it is not clear that KIF23 is involved in the occurrence and development of prostate cancer(PCa).The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the expression of KIF23 and clinicopathological parameters and prognosis of patients with prostate cancer. Methods: The KIF23 m RNA expression data and clinical data of patients were downloaded from cancer genome map(TCGA),including 480 prostate cancer tissue samples and 52 normal tissue samples. The relationship between the expression level and clinicopathological features and prognosis was statistically analyzed. The samples and clinical data of 96 patients who underwent prostate surgery or puncture treatment in our hospital and Guangzhou first people’s Hospital from June 2017 to July 2019 were selected, including 80 prostate cancer tissue samples and 16 normal tissue samples.Tissue microarray was used for immunohistochemical staining, and the relationship between its expression level and clinicopathological features was statistically analyzed. Results: 1.Compared with normal prostate tissue, the expression level of KIF23 in prostate cancer tissue was significantly higher(m RNA:p=0.014,protein:p<0.001).The expression of KIF23 protein was significantly correlated with age, clinical stage and T stage, but not with lymph node metastasis and Gleason score(p>0.05).2.The expression of KIF23 m RNA was significantly correlated with PSA level,Gleason score,T stage and lymph node metastasis, but not with distant metastasis and age(p>0.05).3.Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients with high expression of KIF23 had significantly shorter relapse-free survival,disease-free survival and overall survival than those with low expression. Conclusions: The high expression of KIF23 may predict the low biochemical recurrence-free survival,disease-free survival and overall survival in patients with prostate cancer, which is an independent prognostic factor affecting the survival of patients, and may be used as a potential therapeutic target in the future.
