Acculturation stress is defined as an adaptive pressure, the pressure experienced by groups or individuals with different cultural backgrounds in contact with each other.Individuals may have negative emotions and behaviors in the process of adapting to the new cultural environment. The studies on international students and immigrant groups have found that acculturation stress is a predictor of depression. The acculturation stress may affect the ethnic minorities who come from remote areas where ethnic minorities live.Investigations and studies on ethnic minority students in our country have found that the detection rate of depressive symptoms in ethnic minority groups is greater than that of Han students. Therefore,it is necessary to examine the relationship between acculturation stress and depression symptoms in ethnic minority students and explore its path of occurrence in order to provide theoretical support for the mental health education of minority students. In contrast to self-criticism and negative self-evaluations,self-compassion involves taking a kind compassionate and accepting stance towards oneself in instances of suffering due to forces beyond one’s control as well as when the suffering is due to personal failings. In this study, the concept of self-compassion was first introduced to explore whether it can buffer the influence of cultural adaptation stress on depressive symptoms and play a regulatory role.Secondly, this study revised the short-term self-compassion intervention curriculum based on the previous self-compassion theory and self-compassion training courses,so as to provide a new way for minority student groups to improve mental health and test the effectiveness of the intervention program. This study used the Acculturation Stress Scale, the Self-Compassion Scale, and the Depression Scale to investigate the acculturation pressure,self-compassion level, and depression symptoms of minority college students in certain universities. The research results obtained are as follows:(1)A survey of 604(Nmale=372,Nfemale=232;Mage=22.8)minority students at school showed that demographic variables have an impact on students’ acculturation stress,self-compassion level and depression symptoms.Among them, students’ age, grade, single parent’s original family situation, and length of time learning Chinese can all affect acculturation stress(p<0.001).The student’s grade, native family status, birthplace, only child status, and professional category all affect the level of self-compassion and depression symptoms(p<0.01).(2)The cultural adaptation stress of ethnic minority students was significantly positively correlated with depressive symptoms(r=0.346,p<0.01),and self-compassion was significantly negatively correlated with cultural adaptation stress and depressive symptoms(r=-0.22,r=-0.734,p<0.01).(3)Through hierarchical regression analysis,it is found that the stress of cultural adaptation positively predicts students’ depressive symptoms(β=0.257,P<0.001),self-compassion significantly negatively predicts depressive symptoms(β=-0.428,P<0.001),the stress of cultural adaptation and self-compassion product term is significant(β=-0.005,P<0.01),indicating that self-compassion has a moderating effect and can reduce the impact of cultural adaptation pressure on the depression symptoms of ethnic minority students.Research 2 was revised on the basis of Neff s self-compassion theory and short-term self-compassion training courses designed by Dundas and Binder, and implemented self-compassion group counseling training activities.Compared with the control group, after two weeks of training, the students in the intervention group significantly improved their level of self-compassion(P<0.001)and their depression symptoms(P<0.001).On the one hand, this research reveals the negative impact of acculturation stress on ethnic minority groups, and discovers the protective effect of self-compassion,which enriches related theoretical research;on the other hand,self-compassion group counseling shows the effectiveness of intervention for minority college students, provides a new intervention perspective for red ucing the depressive symptoms caused by the pressure of cultural adaptation, and has important event significance.
