Background:With the increasing incidence of mood disorders,self-injury and suicidal behavior have gradually attracted the attention of many researchers.Self-injury and suicidal behavior in patients with mood disorders have put a great burden to their families and even to the country.Adverse childhood experiences(ACEs),as a series of negative life events experienced by individuals in their early years, may be related to self-injury and suicidal behavior in the later period through the negative effects on patients with mood disorders. However, study on ACEs among patients with mood disorders is limited, its connection with self-injury and suicidal behavior remains controversial in academic circles, therefore,it’s vital to master the status of self-injury and suicidal behavior and its influencing factors, analyze the relationship between ACEs and self-injury,suicidal behavior and further formulate and take corresponding preventive and intervention measures.Objectives:(1)To understand the ACEs among patients with mood disorders.(2)To understand the self-injury and suicidal behavior among patients with mood disorders, and to explore the risk factors of self-injury and suicidal behavior.(3)To explore the correlations between ACEs and self-injury,suicidal behavior among patients with mood disorders. Methods:A total of 506 adult inpatients with mood disorders were recruited from two psychiatric hospitals from September 2019 to March 2021 by convenience sampling.Data were collected by the General Demographic Questionnaire,Adverse Childhood Experience-International Questionnaire,Nonsuicidal Self-Injury Questionnaire and Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised.SPSS 22.0 was adopted for statistical analysis of the data.Results:(1)The average age of the respondents was 30.49±12.58(18~60 years old),including 320 females(63.24%),259 patients with depression(51.19%)and 247 patients with bipolar disorder(48.81%).(2)A total of 474 subjects reported ACEs(93.68%),the most common of which were emotional neglect(57.31%)and witnessing domestic violence(40.71%).(3)The detection rate of self-injury of the subjects was 60.47%,and the most common way of self-injury was to deliberately hit hard objects such as wall(33.00%),and the ways of self-injury of males and females were different. The total score of suicidal behavior was 8.35±4.70.(4)Age,marital status, family monthly income, family type,left-behind experience and impulsivity were the influencing factors of self-injury(all P<0.05);Age,marital status, employment status, family monthly income,left-behind experience, impulsivity, diagnosis and onset were the influencing factors of suicidal behavior(all P<0.05).(5)Physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, family substance abuse and witnessing domestic violence were associated with self-injury(all P<0.05);Except for family members’ imprisonment and collective violence, other types of ACEs were significantly positively correlated with suicidal behavior(all P<0.05).Conclusions:(1)The incidence of ACEs is high, and most of the patients with mood disorders have one or more types of ACEs,suggesting that hospitals, communities and even families should pay attention to the identification and screening of ACEs.(2)The occurrence of self-injury is not optimistic and tends to be multiple types. The respondents were at higher risk of suicidal behavior.Self-injury and suicidal behavior are affected by many factors, including age, marital status, family monthly income, etc. In the future, the identification and intervention of the above influencing factors can be strengthened to reduce the incidence of self injury and suicidal behavior.(3)Most types of ACEs among patients with mood disorders are correlated with self-injury and suicidal behavior, which indicates that ACEs plays an important role in the implementation of self injury and suicidal behavior, suggesting that it is imperative to monitor and intervene the risk of self injury and suicidal behavior based on ACEs.
