Baduanjin(Eight-section Qigong Exercises)exercises three essential factors constituting the human body,i.e.Form,Qi,and Spirit.Baduanjin has been one of the health-guiding Qigong methods that circulated the longest and for thousands of years it has contributed to the prevention of disease and health-keeping.Since the beginning of the 21 st century,Health and Qigong Management Center of the General Administration of Sport designed and edited “ Fitness Qigong Baduanjin ”(Eight-section Qigong Exercises)with the theoretical guidance of traditional Qigong studies,traditional Chinese medical science,human physiology,and kinesiology.While inheriting the traditional Qigong Baduanjin,the advanced exercises opened a new chapter for the heritage and innovative development of Qigong Baduanjin.The first part contends with theoretical analysis by sorting the principals,sources,and development of “ Fitness Qigong Baduanjin.” The research object of this experiment is “ Fitness Qigong Baduanjin ” designed and edited by Health and Qigong Management Center of the General Administration of Sport in the “New Era.”The article specifically introduces the features and fitness mechanism of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin.” Traditional Chinese medical science believes that the human body is composed of three essential elements: Form,Qi,and Spirit.As a Qigong guiding method,“Fitness Qigong Baduanjin” fundamentally exercises and regulates Form,Qi,and Spirit,and integrates the three elements into one.Therefore,in accordance with the view of “inseparable Form,Qi,and Spirit,” this paper makes a thorough analysis of the movement guidance method and the mechanism of health preservation and treatment of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin,” respectively studying and analyzing the principles of it.The paper points out that the exercises and regulation of Form of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin” substantially combine Form and Spirit,making them interact and follow one another.The exercises and regulation of Qi primarily guide Qi by Form,Consciousness,and Breath,so to guide the entry and exit of Qi throughout the whole body.For the exercises and regulation of Spirit,every guiding movement is completed with the consciousness’ domination over the bodily movement.Hence,the guiding movement and method of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin”epitomize that in the process of Qigong practice,the coordination and cooperation of Form,Qi,and Spirit ultimately achieve the optimization of vitality of the human body,integrating Form,Qi,and Spirit into one.On the basis of the theoretical analysis in the first part,the second part further proves it from the perspective of modern scientific experiments.With the theoretical research of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin,” the author uses the terahertz detector,the infrared thermal image instrument,the pulse wave measuring instrument,and the EEG machine to collect data from 120 university students who are proficient in “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin.” The first movement,“putting up hands and regulating the three centers of the body,” mainly helps to clear and nurse the three centers with external guidance working through the internal;the second movement,“stretching both sides like using the bow,”helps to stretch the Qi of three Yin meridians and improve the functions of heart and lungs,which would effectively widen the chest,regulate the lungs,and strengthen the heart;the third movement,“the single lift regulating the spleen and stomach,”helps to stimulate the three Yin and three Yang meridians of the hand,regulate the Qi of the meridians,as well as lead the Qi of spleen to rise and that of stomach to descend,hence strengthening the spleen and stomach;the fourth movement,“five strains and seven damages turning back,” would stimulate Dazhui acupoint and Yu acupoint of Bladder meridian of Foot-Taiyang,while pulling the viscera of the chest and abdomen.By adjusting the functions of the viscera and promoting the circulation of Qi and blood throughout the body,“five strains and seven damages”can be prevented.Mild concentration on Dantian(the pubic region),can also induce Qi to return to its origin,replenish the Qi mechanism of Dantian,cultivate and strengthen the essence,and then remedy deficiency of the body;the fifth movement,“shaking head and tail to reduce internal heat,” is to regulate the kidney water,strengthen the kidney Yin,and promote the communication of heart and kidney,improve the complement between Water and Fire,breed the kidney Yin,and restrict the hyperactivity of internal heat;the sixth movement,“hands climbing down to the feet to strengthen the kidney and waist,” by pitching,warming up,and guarding the waist,Qi of kidney can be cultivated.Smooth movement of the waist can unblock and connect the pulse.Climbing down to the feet and strengthening the kidney by pressing the waist can adjust and regulate Governor Vessel and the bladder meridian;the seventh movement,“clenching fists and opening eyes wide to increase vitality,” is to guide the body movements with the feeling of “anger,” which would elevate Qi of the body,so the drainage and blood-storage functions of the liver can be strengthened.Organs of the whole body would therefore be nourished by the liver and blood,increasing vitality;the eighth movement,“elevating the body to eliminate all diseases,”is to lift the heel,pull up Baihui acupoint,and stretch the spine,so the relaxation and tightening of the feet’s landing and lift would promote Yang Qi and unblock the Qi and blood of the body,thus eliminating diseases.Therefore,each movement of the exercises has different effect on the corresponding viscera.In the process of practicing “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin,” the three elements of Form,Qi,and Spirit must be coordinated with each other to eventually achieve the optimized state of health harmoniously combining Form,Qi,and Spirit.Through the theoretical analysis and experimental analysis of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin ” of different times of practice,the paper reveals that the essence of“ Fitness Qigong Baduanjin ” is to exercise and regulate Form,Qi,and Spirit,integrating them into one and making full use of the mechanism of modern scientific fitness effects,so that the effectiveness of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin” can be scientifically proved,and hence made an example and researching basis for the development and application for fitness Qigong exercise prescription.Also it would help the general public to understand the content of “Fitness Qigong Baduanjin,” so that it would be scientifically and effectively promoted to the public.
