Objective: To compare the histopathological differences and evaluate the endothelial cell loss and fibrosis of rabbits’ femoral vein caused by cyanoacrylate(Fuaile medical adhesive)and 1% polidocanol. Methods: 24 adult male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into experimental group, positive control group, and negative control group(n=8 each). All the bilateral femoral veins of rabbits were fully exposed and dissociated after been narcotized. The veins in experimental group were injected with 0.1ml Fuaile(FAL)medical adhesive. Those in positive control group and negative control group were injected with 0.1ml polidocanol(1%)and 0.1ml normal saline(NS).The local veins and their side tissue of each group were cut off for samples for hematoxylin-eosin(HE)staining at the 1st day,3rd day,7th day and 14 th day after injection.Histopathological changes and endothelial cell loss of each group were observed and evaluated.Fibrosis of vascular was observed after Masson staining. Results: Both of FAL medical adhesive and 1% polidocanol can cause aseptic inflammatory reaction, fibrosis, lumen stenosis, etc.Compared with the polidocanol group, the total score of pathological changes in each period was higher in the FAL medical glue group, and the scores at 3rd day and 7th day after injection were significantly higher than those in polidocanol group(p<0.01).The degree of vascular endothelial cell loss was higher in the FAL medical adhesive group in total, but there is no significant difference in endothelial cell loss between two groups at each period(p> 0.05).In addition, the degree of fibrosis induced by FAL medical adhesive was significantly higher at 7th day and 14 th day after injecting than those in polidocanol group(p<0.01).Conclusion: Injection of FAL medical adhesive can cause stronger histopathological reaction to vascular, reduce the residual vascular endothelial cells and cause higher degree of fibrosis.
