Objective To evaluate the medium and long term surgical effect, visual function and quality of life after cataract surgery in districts and counties of Chongqing. Methods This study is a multicenter prospective clinical study.600 patients who received cataract surgery at 6 hospitals in districts and counties of Chongqing were included in the experimental group. And 600 patients who underwent common cataract surgery at the first affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University during the same period were included in the control group.Uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA),best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),subjective and objective optometry, intraocular pressure(IOP),visual function and quality of life questionnaire(VF-QOL questionnaire)were measured preoperation. All patients were followed up at 1 and 6 months postoperatively. The surgical effect, visual function and quality of life of patients in the medium and long term post-operation was evaluated by inter-group comparison and self-control.Results There was no significant difference in sex, age, cataract type and preoperative VF-QOL scores between the experimental group and the control group. The UCVA,BCVA and the scores of VF-QOL scale at postoperative 1 month and 6 months in the experimental group were significantly better than those at pre-operation,but significantly lower than those in the control group. The UCVA,BCVA and the scores of VF-QOL scale at postoperative 6 months were significantly lower than those at postoperative 1 month. And the proportion of patients with refractive status<-1.5D and ≥ 0.5D in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group at postoperative 1 month. At postoperative 6months,the incidence of posterior capsule opacification in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group. And the main factors affecting UCVA in the experimental group at postoperative 6months were uncorrected ametropia(37.2%),posterior capsule opacification(29.6%)and fundus lesions(19.3%).Concluion The medium and long term visual quality after cataract surgery in districts and counties of Chongqing is significantly better than that preoperation, but lower than that in the control group. And the main factors affecting the visual quality in the postoperative middle and long term are uncorrected ametropia and posterior capsule opacification.
