China is the country with the largest elderly population and the fastest economic growth rate in the world. In recent years, the rapid economic development, the improvement of people’s living standards, the decline in the growth rate of fertility and the prolongation of population life expectancy all accelerate the process of aging. As a mainstay of national economic development,Jiangsu Province has long presented an aging development trend in population characteristics. The problems brought by aging are basically the same as the national problems. At the same time,Jiangsu Province is faced with many social security problems for the elderly, pension problems and the development of sunset industries. To further alleviate the pressure and problems brought by aging, the key way out is healthy aging. Therefore,it is very important to study the comprehensive factors affecting the health status of the elderly in Jiangsu Province for healthy aging.Based on the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)in 2016 and 2014,this paper uses statistical methods such as tracking analysis, robust transformation, association analysis, principal component analysis, binary logistic regression and structural equation. This study focuses on the self-care ability and mental health of the elderly in Jiangsu Province and the influence path between them. The findings:1.Tracing analysis:(1)More elderly reported declining self-care and mental health in 2016 than in 2014;(2)Most of the decline in self-care is from being able to do something "yes, but need some help" to being able to do something "no";(3)Most declines in mental health are from "every few days" when things get bad to "almost every day."2.Self-care ability:(1)Essential characteristic:Age,education level, household registration and employment status have significant effects on the self-care ability of the elderly;(2)Economic status:the annual total family expenditure and the annual total family income in 2015,whether the family is in debt, and whether they(or their spouse)own a house have a significant impact on the self-care ability of the elderly;(3)Accompanying support:taking care of housework/child care for children in the last six months has a positive impact on self-care ability;(4)Health behaviors:Exercise time, middle and high intensity leisure activities, mental leisure activities and low intensity leisure activities had significant effects;(5)Sickness status: Cardiovascular diseases and malignant respiratory diseases have a negative effect on the elderly’s ability to take care of themselves.3.Mental health:(1)Essential characteristic: The education level and employment status have significant influence on the mental health of the elderly;(2)Economic status:Whether the family is in debt or not,and whether they(or their spouse)own a house has a significant impact on the mental health of the elderly;(3)Accompanying support: Taking care of household chores/child care in the last six months also had a positive effect on the mental health of the elderly;(4)Health behaviors:Low intensity leisure activity has significant influence on the life mental health of the elderly;(5)Sickness status: Having cardiovascular and respiratory malignancies also has a negative impact on mental health in older people.4.The influence path of self-care ability and mental health:(1)Participation in middle and high intensity leisure activities such as singing, dancing and traveling and low intensity leisure activities such as walking and playing chess have positive effects on the self-care ability and mental health of the elderly;(2)Instrumental self-care ability has a greater impact on the mental health of the elderly.
