The Research Of The Incidence And Influencing Factors Of Elderly Falling In Nursing Homes In Shenyang

Objective: Since China has entered an aging country,many elderly people choose to live in nursing homes instead of the traditional way of home care.However,no matter in which environment,the problem of falling of the elderly cannot be ignored,and falling has become one of the main injuries of the elderly.The purpose of this study is to understand the situation and causes of elderly falls in elderly care institutions in Shenyang City,and to analyze the incidence and influencing factors of elderly falls.Methods: This cross-sectional study randomly selected 67 nursing institutions from 9regions in Shenyang City,Liaoning Province at a 10% proportion,and randomly selected 10-20 elderly people over 60 years old in each nursing institution,with a total of 813 elderly people as the research object.However,the information of 683 respondents was finally selected for analysis.In this study,information was collected by a combination of self-filling and face-to-face interviews.The questionnaires included information on general demographic characteristics of the elderly,fall history and fall characteristics in the past year,and the assessment of fall risk factors.The chi-square test was used to analyze the significant differences between the respective variables and the dependent variables(whether they fell or not).The influencing factors and protective factors of fall were analyzed by binary Logistic regression.Results: The incidence of falls in this study was 16.7%.Regression analysis results showed that,falls of elderlys mainly caused by personal factors such as the old man’s own health,including more kinds of drugs(OR = 3.635),visual disorder(OR =1.658),using a walker(OR = 2.375),underestimates of own behavioral ability(OR =3.235)are the main risk factors of elderly falls,and to use non-slip mat(OR = 0.575)is protective factor of elderlys’ falls.Conclusion: The fall rate of the elderly in this nursing home is lower than the previous similar studies.A major risk factor for the elderly fall is a personal factors,a variety of drugs,especially at the same time more than four kinds of drugs can increase the risk of elderly falls,in addition to people with visual impairment,using a walker and underestimate their behavior ability is also a risk factor for falls,underestimate their own behavior ability mainly because of the old man’s fear of falling,the fall of the fear psychology is one of the major risk factors for falls,the other used prevent slippery carpet can prevent the old man fall down.In response to the research results,elderly care institutions can improve the living environment of the elderly,such as placing non-slip carpets in the elderly’s bedrooms and bathrooms,and nursing staff regularly clean the rooms to avoid the random placement of indoor items that affect the elderly’s walking.
