PurposeTo investigate the effect of family management model on the management ability, family function, basic knowledge of the disease, quality of life, recurrence rate and duration of children with epilepsy.MethodThis study is a kind of experimental study.104 families of children with epilepsy admitted to a 3A-grade hospital of our city from January,2019 to January,2020 were selected as the study objects. Before the experiment, the children with epilepsy were numbered according to their admission time. With their parents’ consent, the 52 children numbered evenand their parents were selected as intervention group;the other 52 children and their parents were selected as the control group. In the process of data collection, nine children and their parents were excluded from the group due to failure of follow-up.Finally,48 children and their parentsin the intervention group and 47 children and their parents in the control group completed the study. Both groups were investigated within 24 hours after admissionby questionnaire and scale which included with general situation of children and their families, family management scale, family function rating scale, children’s quality of life scale, medication compliance scale. The control group received routine treatment, nursing, health education and discharge guidance.Except for routine treatment, nursing, health education and discharge guidance, the researcher intervened the intervention group with family management mode, including family management ability, family function and knowledge of epilepsy. The intervention time was from 24 hours after admission to 6 months after discharge.Theintervention methods included explanation, distribution of family management manual, health education, video guidance, peer communicationand outpatient supervision. When the two groups of children returned to the hospital for reexamination 6 months after discharge, the researcher and a trained nurse issued a questionnaire for further investigation to evaluate the family management ability, family function, basic knowledge of the disease, the quality of life of the children and the intervention effect of medication compliance and seizure frequency of children in the past 6 months. The data used were entered by Excel2010 and analyzed by spss22.0.Descriptive analysis, two independent samples t-test,rank sum test and repeated variance test were used for statistical analysis.ResultsIn this study,104 families of children with epilepsy were selected as research objects, and 95 families completed the whole research process. The total loss of follow-up rate was 8.7%.(1)Comparison between the two groups before the intervention: comparison of parental observation indicators: family management ability, family function, and mastery of basic knowledge of disease in the two groups;statistical analysis showed no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).The observation index of children in the two groups: quality of life, medication compliance, times of seizure in the last 6 months, comparison of each onset time, after statistical analysis, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).(2)Comparison between the two groups after intervention: comparison of parental observation indicators: family management ability, family function, and mastery of basic knowledge of disease in the two groups, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Observation indicators of children in the two groups: quality of life, medication compliance, times of seizure in the last 6 months, comparison of each onset time, after statistical analysis, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(3)Comparison within the control group before and after intervention: the observation indicators of parents in the control group: family management ability, family function, mastery of basic knowledge of disease, psychological status and observation indicators of children with disease: quality of life, medication compliance, times of seizure in the last 6 months, comparison of each onset time all changed, but the change range was not large, after statistical analysis, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).(4)Comparison within the intervention group before and after the intervention:before and after the intervention, the observation indicators of parents in the intervention group: family management ability, family function, mastery of basic knowledge of disease, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Observation indicators of children: quality of life, medication compliance, times of seizure in the last 6 months, comparison of each onset time were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion(1)The application of family management mode in the continuous nursing of children with epilepsy can effectively improve the quality of life of children’s parents, improve the parents’ family management ability and level of disease knowledge.(2)The application of family management mode in the continuous nursing ofchildren with epilepsy plays a positive role in improving the quality of life of children with epilepsy, and can improve children’s medication compliance, reduce the times of seizure and each onset time in the last 6 months.
