For a long time, job stress and job performance have been the focus of management. In recent years, the problem of doctors’ job stress has gradua lly become an urgent problem to be solved in the public medical service and the construction of a new pattern of healthy China. The object of this study-residents,as the primary level of doctors, the group’s own characteristics and the collection of all kinds of work pressure make their treatment of all kinds of work pressure is particularly important.Improper treatment of work pressure not only damages the physical and mental health of residents, forms bad coping habits, but also negatively affects their future medical work performance,at the same time as a public service, medical service has some external effects, and doctors’ improper pressure response is likely to affect the patient and the whole medical organization or society, which has a huge impact. This study hopes to enrich the relevant research and exploration of medical workers by studying the relationship between work stress and performance of residents in public hospitals. At the same time,it hopes to better understand the relationship and mechanism principle between stress coping and work performance of medical workers,so that they can show a better mental and work state, serve the public and provi de better medical services.Based on this background and current situation, this paper takes the residents of a public AAA hospital in Shanghai as the research object. On the basis of summarizi ng the previous research, combined with the background and characteristics of residents, this paper uses the form of questionnaire survey to study the relationship between residents’ work pressure and work performance.Based on the theoretical hypothesis, this study first analyzes the relevant indicators of the questionnaire through a pre survey, and then conducts a formal survey after meeting the basic requirements.Through reliability, validity analysis and factor rotation, the structural dimensions of the core concepts of resident job stress and job performance were established.Job stress was divided into 10 factors, which were workload pressure, personal development pressure, policy environment pressure, organizational incentive and management pressure,non-medical work pressure, work risk pressure, job security pressure, occupational ideal pressure, social identity pressure, interpersonal pressure.Job performance is divided into four factors : task performance, peripheral performance, extra performance and personal development performance. After that, independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the influence of residents’ background variables on job stress and job performance. Finally, correlation analysis and regression analysis are carried out to discuss the relationship between them in detail. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)there are significant differences in the effects of some demographic variables on job stress and work performance, such as age, length of service and income.(2)The work pressure of residents in this case belongs to the high level.(3)The work performa nce of residents in this case also showed a high level.(4)There is a significant positive correlation between residents’ workload pressure, policy environment pressure, work risk pressure and social identity pressure and residents’ overall work performance;there is a significant negative correlation between occupational ideal pressure and overall work performance. Finally, according to the results of empirical analysis,it is suggested that residents should continue to respond well to the work pressure, and sublimate their personal career pursuit and ideal;at the same time, hospitals and organizations should pay attention to the development of residents and help them, they should create a challenging working atmosphere and improve the income and treatment of residents in the later stage, the government and society should continue to improve the medical security system and medical laws and regulations, strengthen the public’s medical science popularization and education, and create a social atmosphere of respecting health. It is hoped that this study can provide some reference and suggestions for residents and managers of public hospitals.
