Purpose:To measure the size and shape of sella turcica in patients with different sexes and different skeletal facial types, and to explore the correlation between the size of sella turcica and craniofacial measurements,so as to provide references for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods:A total of 126 patients(40 males,86 females, and the average age was 21.81)with malocclusion in the Department of Orthodontics,Hospital of Stomatology,Jilin University from 2017 to 2021 were selected.Lateral cephalograms of 126 patients were retrospectively analyzed.According to sagittal facial type, they were divided into skeletal class Ⅰ(39 cases),skeletal class Ⅱ(48cases)and skeletal class Ⅲ(39 cases);According to vertical facial type, they were divided into average-angle group(44 cases),low-angle group(40 cases)and high-angle group(42 cases). The Dolphin Image-g11.9software was used to locate sella turcica and craniofacial markers in lateral cranial radiographs.Data related to sella turcica and craniofacial hard tissues were measured and analyzed.SPSS 23.0 statistical software was used to analyze the craniofacial cephalometric data. The normally distributed data were shown as mean ± standard deviation((?)±s).The chi-square test was adopted to analyze whether there were differences in sella shape between different genders and different malocclusions, the independent sample T test was adopted to contrast sella size between different genders, and one-way ANOVA was adopted to contrast the differences in sella size between different groups,LSD test was used for post-test.Pearson correlation test was used to analyze the relationship between sella size and cranial and maxillofacial measurements.P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:1、 There were no significant differences in sella shape and size between different genders(P>0.05).2、 There were no significant differences in the shape and size of sella turcica among the sagittal facial type groups(P>0.05).3、 In the vertical facial type groups,There were no significant differences in sella shape(P>0.05).The diameter in high-angle group were larger than low-angle group(P<0.05);The depth and area of sella turcica in high-angle group were larger than the other two groups(P<0.05);Only the sella diameter of the average-angle group was larger than that of the low-angle group(P<0.05).4、 The length of sella turcica was positively related to mandibular plane angle(P<0.05).The diameter, depth and area were positively related to total face height, lower face height, mandibular length, and mandibular plane angle(P<0.05).Conclusion:1、There are no differences in sella shape and size between different genders.2、Within the sagittal facial type groups, there are no differences in the shape and size of sella.3、In the vertical facial type groups, there are no differences in sella shape.Sella diameter, depth and area are biggest in high-angle patients.4、There are significant correlations among the growth trend of mandible, basis cranii and sella size, and this discovery could provide references for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
