Objective:To evaluate the effects of two Er: YAG laser activation irrigation techniques and ultrasonically activated irrigation on the removal effect of calcium hydroxide in the root canal and the apical sealing ability, and clarify the clinical application value of this technique in the process of root canal irrigation. Methods:A total of 80 fresh isolated single-canal premolars extracted for orthodontic treatment were collected. After the crown was cut,Using Wave One Gold prepared to 35#,and the root canal was filled with calcium hydroxide paste.According to different irrigation techniques, all samples were randomly divided into 4 groups(n=20): ultrasonically activated irrigation group,PIPS group,SWEEPS group, and negative control group.Experiment 1:Each group randomly selected 10 samples in longitudinal section.SEM was used to observe the amount of residual calcium hydroxide in the cervical third, middle third, and apical third.Using the calcium hydroxide cleanliness scoring table to score and compare the effects of different irrigation techniques on the removal of calcium hydroxide.Experiment 2: The remaining samples of each group were filled with root canals,a week later, methylene blue was used for dye penetration experiment to detect the the apical sealing ability. Results:In experiment 1,compared with the control group, the calcium hydroxide scores of each experimental group were increased(P<0.05);none of the experimental groups could completely remove the calcium hydroxide in the root canal; In the three experimental groups, the residual calcium hydroxide in the apical third was significantly more than that in the cervical third and middle third, which was statistically different(P<0.05);PIPS and SWEEPS removed more calcium hydroxide than UAI in the cervical third(P<0.05).While in the middle third, only SWEEPS removed more calcium hydroxide than UAI(P<0.05).The apical third did not show significant differences among experimental groups(P>0.05).There was no statistically significant difference between PIPS and SWEEPS in the removal of calcium hydroxide in the cervical, middle and apical thirds(P>0.05).In Experiment 2,the results of one way-ANOVA showed that there was no statistical difference in the dye penetration length among groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:1.PIPS and SWEEPS have better effect on the removal of calcium hydroxide in the upper part of the root canal than UAI,but the three technologies have no obvious difference in the apical third;2.PIPS and SWEEPS have an effect on hydroxide The ability to remove calcium is comparable;3.The three irrigation techniques in this experiment can not completely remove the calcium hydroxide on the root canal wall, but the residual calcium hydroxide has no obvious effect on the apical sealing ability after root canal filling in the short term.
