| Objective To estimate the prevalence and related factors of suicidal behaviors among middle school students,and to provide powerful evidence for prevention,identification and intervention.Methods 914 middle-school students coming from a school of Shenzhen,Gangdong Province participated in our study,as soon as their guardians.The students’ self-reported questionnaire survey was conducted to collect the information including demographic information,mental health level,childhood trauma experience,psychological and ethological symptom and suicidal behaviors.The guardians’ questionnaire collected the information about family environment,their anxiety and depression level.Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression model were used to analyze the risk factors for the suicidal behavior among middle school students.Results After the centralized questionnaire investigation,we collected 914 valid questionnaires,with a validity rate of 100.0%.The guardians’ questionnaires were successfully matched in 708 copies with the students’,with a validity rate of 77.5%.1.The incidence of suicidal behavior in middle school students: 181 of 914 middle students(18.9%)had suicide attempts within two weeks,and 191(20.9%)once had a suicide experience in their life.2.Analysis of the risk factors for suicidal behavior among middle school students : Univariate analysis indicated that fear of negative evaluation,cognition,thought,personality,will and behaviour,interpersonal relationship,study stress,punishment,other life events,family cohesion and conflict,depression disorder,somatic symptoms,sleep problems,depression,anxiety,anger& irritability,substance abuse,psychosis,emotional abuse,physical abuse,emotional neglect,physical neglect are related to suicide attempts of students,and the multivariate logistic regression model indicated that depression disorders(OR=2.279,95%CI: 1.441~3.604),physical abuse in childhood(OR=2.357,95%CI:1.218~4.561),substance abuse(OR=3.715,95%CI:2.461~5.607),family conflict(OR=1.116,95%CI: 1.006 to 1.237)may be independent factors of suicide attempts in two weeks.At the same time,univariate analysis indicated that fear of negative evaluation,personality,will and behavior,interpersonal relationship,study stress,punishment,other life events,family conflict,social anxiety disorder,depression disorder,somatic symptoms,sleep problems,depression,anxiety,anger & irritability,attention defects,obsession,substance abuse,psychosis,emotional abuse,physical abuse,sexual abuse,emotional neglect and physical neglect are related to suicide experience of students,and the multivariate logistic regression model indicated that factors such as depressive disorder(OR=1.657,95%CI: 1.059~2.591),childhood physical abuse(OR=2.608,95%CI: 1.393~4.882),substance abuse(OR=4.204,95%CI:2.800~6.313),will and behavior(OR=0.894,95%CI:0.833~0.958)may be independent factors of their suicide experience.Conclusion The high incidence of suicidal behavior in middle school students,which is significantly related to their mental health level,psychological disorder,,childhood trauma experience and family environment.Improving the mental health level of students,the early prevention and treatment of psychological disorder,and improving the dysfunctional family environment are effective ways to reduce the incidence of suicidal behaviors in middle school students. |
