| BackgroundNurses’empathy has been widely regarded as one of the necessary conditions for effective nursing. The lack of nurses’empathy ability will lead to a series of problems such as frequent nurse-patient conflicts, nurses’burnout, and rising turnover rate.Central listening and honest expression, focusing on the deep-seated needs of oneself and others,is a way to improve the quality of human interaction. Therefore, this study applies nonviolent communication to the clinical nurse group, aiming to improve nurses’empathy ability and establish a harmonious nurse-patient relationship.ObjectiveBy investigating the status quo of nurses’empathy ability and analyzing its influencing factors, construct a non-violent communication training program, conduct non-violent communication training for nurses, and evaluate the intervention effect after the training. The application of the model in the nursing group provides a scientific basis.Methods1.Using cluster sampling method,1475 nurses in a tertiary general hospital in Xinxiang City,Henan Province were surveyed by general data questionnaire,Jefferson Empathy Scale,Interpersonal Communication Satisfaction Scale and Nurses’Work Happiness Scale.SPSS20.0 software was used for statistical description, independent sample t test,one-way analysis of variance,Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis to analyze the influencing factors of nurses’empathy ability.P<0.05 was regarded as statistically significant.2.Based on a large number of literature reviews and the current status of nurses’work,a non-violent communication training program was initially constructed, and two rounds of expert consultation were conducted.Ten experts in the fields of clinical nursing, psychological nursing, nursing management and nursing education were included in the nursing field to revise the plan and establish the implementation.3.In a cross-sectional study from September to December 2019,54 intervention subjects were recruited from the bottom 27%of nurses with low empathy ability. The intervention subjects were given a six-week on-site lecture on non-violent communication. In addition, they shared non-violent communication-related knowledge on the We Chat platform for daily intervention. In addition to the cross-sectional survey, questionnaires were used to investigate nurses’empathy ability, communication satisfaction and job well-being levels before and immediately after the intervention.SPSS20.0 was used to describe the post-intervention samples and paired sample t-test to analyze the changes in nurses’empathy ability after non-violent communication intervention.Results1.The total score of clinical nurses’empathy ability was(110.77±11.95)points,and the item average score was(5.54±0.60)points,which was in the middle level.Nurses’empathy ability was significantly positively correlated with communication satisfaction and job well-being(r=0.519,0.405;both P<0.001).Communication satisfaction, job well-being,work department,nurse-patient communication training, average monthly income, and work intensity were the main influencing factors of nurses’empathy ability(R~2=0.303,F=106.176,P<0.001).2.After two rounds of expert consultation,10 experts in the field of nursing discussed and revised the nonviolent communication training program, and finally formed an implementable intervention program.3.A total of 54 nurses were intervened in the non-violent communication training. The self-control method was used. After the intervention, the total score of nurses’empathy ability(99.56±5.56),perspective taking(66.13±4.03),emotional nursing(26.46±4.45)and empathy(6.96±2.43)dimension scores were significantly improved(all P<0.001);total communication satisfaction(61.31±5.60),overall satisfaction with conversation(16.80±2.34)and free interaction(8.48±1.49)dimension scores significantly improved(all P<0.05);the scores of total work well-being(80.76±12.82),interpersonal(18.43±2.72),work value(21.57±3.30)and work characteristics(12.35±2.42)were significantly improved(all P<0.05). |
