Oil painting art is an important category of Western traditional painting art. However, due to some historical tradition reasons, China’s development of oil painting only has a history of about 100 years. Compared with Chinese traditional calligraphy and painting, oil painting receives less awareness and attention from investors and collectors. The first time oil painting associated with the market in China’s mainland can be traced back as early as the 1980s, but later than the development of oil painting in Hong Kong and Taiwan began. China’s oil painting market has always been the most weak, most desolate and least dynamic plate.China’s economy develops persistently in the domestic and international environment of stable market economy and people’s need of their cultural and spiritual life is increasing. Under the background of the amalgamation of global culture, people’s cognitive aspects of oil are rising. As people concern more about China oil painting market, the price of Chinese oil paintings has a positive upward trend, the amount of oil painting collectors and investors has increased and China oil painting market develops rapidly. At the same time, led by international and domestic art market, China oil painting market has become the most attractive, the fastest growing and the most valuable plate in China art market. And China oil painting market is playing a more and more important role in China art market.Though the development of China oil painting market under the background of market economy only has a short history of about 20 years but it’s very fast. Theoretical research on the oil painting market develops far more slowly than the oil painting market itself. In this paper, I focus on Chinese oil painting market; I use art, aesthetics, economics, management and other multi-disciplinary combination of research methods; I use four elements of the current oil painting market (oil paintings suppliers, oil painting products, painting markets, oil consumers) and market intermediaries (art galleries, auction houses, art fairs, brokers) as the basic research unit and systematically study the operation rules hidden behind China oil painting market; I accent on the analysis of the practical problems exist in the investment and collection in China oil painting market. I hope that through the tentative observations and explorations of China oil painting market in this historic period of economic background, status, culture and ideology, I can have a further understanding of the current situation of China oil painting collection and auction and make clear about the reasons for the development of China oil painting market, the problems exist and the future trend in order to enhance people’s knowledge of China oil painting market. It has both theoretical and practical significance.
