With the increasingly frequent international intercourse,the status of language as a tool to communicate with each other is increasingly promoted.Undoubtedly,metaphor which is an important expression of the language plays an important role in the communication and understanding,therefore teaching metaphors has become an indispensable part in Chinese lessons.Metaphor is not only a rhetorical device,but also a way of thinking.Body Metaphor as one of the most common cognitive style exists in different languages widely.In fact,whether Chinese or English,almost every vital body organs of the term are derived by metaphor usage.Mostly,the information about the outside world is visual,the visual organ--eye plays a critical role in the cognitive system.For these reasons,this paper focuses on the cognitive of "眼/eye"metaphor words in Chinese and English.This paper is divided into five parts:Chapter Ⅰ is the introduction.First of all,clear the object of study."眼/Eye"denotation words contain both the words that represents a particular organ of the body"眼/eye" morpheme words,(but these words have stopped alleged human organ as the eye,stop to express other meanings in metaphorical way)but also contain "眼/eye"idiomatic phrases.Then,we summarize the current situation and the current lack of academia for the comparative study on cognitive of "eye" metaphor in English and Chinese.Finally,introducing the methods used in this paper:literature research,comparative research,qualitative analysis and so on.Chapter Ⅱ we sort out the semantemes of "眼/eye" in Chinese and English on the basis of the literature and compare the similarities and differences in Chinese and English languages.It can been seen that Chinese and English share eight same semantemes,at same time Chinese owns eleven unique semantemes while English owns one unique semanteme.Chapter Ⅲ,we divide metaphors into shape metaphor,location metaphor,function metaphor,emotion metaphor.Then combine large online corpora with dictionaries,the British National Corpus(BNC),Center for Chinese Linguistics PKU(CCL),"Modern Chinese Dictionary","Oxford Advanced English Dictionary"and so on,gathering specific corpus and comparing metaphor modes.In all of metaphors,shape metaphor and location metaphor are more similarities,the most complex and diverse is function metaphor,the most vivid is emotion metaphor.Chapter Ⅳ analyzes the causes of the similarities and differences of metaphor modes on "眼/eye”in Chinese and English,in terms of physiological factors,linguistic factors,thinking factors,cultural factors.The similarities are mostly based on physiological factors,and differences are subject to multiple effects containing linguistic factors,thinking factors,cultural factors.Chapter Ⅴ colligates the analysis above and make recommendations for teaching"眼/eye" demotions in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language(TCFL)including building metaphor awareness of students,expanding teaching methods,emphasizing on training students’ communicative ability and so on.
