The Communication Research In Chinese TV Drama Criticism

After nearly sixty years of development,Chinese TV drama has made a great progress in quantity and quality.TV drama has been the most influential type of all TV programs in China.In a very long time,Chinese TV drama criticism lacks the sense of using suitable methods.In recent years,communication theory and methods have been used to study Chinese TV drama and this phenomenon is absolutely worth considering.However,the related research has not been published yet.Therefore,it is necessary to summarize how to use communication theory and methods for studying Chinese TV drama.The using of communication theory and methods for TV drama studying is based on theoretical and practical significance.This thesis studied the TV drama studies with communication theory or communication research methods.This thesis used Harold Lasswell’s "5W" model of communication as basic framework,aiming to study how communication theory and methods are used for TV drama studying in control analysis,media analysis,content analysis,audience analysis and effect analysis.This thesis tried to figure out which issues have been concerned about,from which angle these issues were observed,which theory and method has been used and what researchers have achieved so far.In control analysis part,this thesis analyzed macro-control and micro-control on TV drama.In media analysis part,this thesis analyzed media analysis on TV drama in both old media time and new media time.In content analysis part,this thesis focused on two major methods—"content analysis"and "text analysis".In audience analysis part,according to Dennis McQuail’s theory,this thesis divided audience analysis into three parts—structural,behavioral and cultural.In effect analysis part,this thesis focused on two major theories—cultivation theory agenda-setting theory.This thesis found that the using of communication theory for TV drama studying is influenced by both empirical and critical communication theory.Meanwhile,the TV drama studies with communication theory and methods often combine with the genre studies.In addition,there are still some drawbacks in the using of communication theory and methods for TV drama studying.This thesis aims to fill in a gap in research on Chinese TV drama criticism and provides reference for further study on the using of communication theory and methods for TV drama studying.
