In Translation,Rewriting and the Manipulation of Literary Fame,Andre Lefevere describes translation as a form of rewriting and manipulating, and explains three factors such as patronage, ideology, and poetics. This report is based on the translation of Zombie Kid Diaries Volume 3:Walking Dad,aiming to illustrate how to apply the Manipulation Theory into English to Chinese translation practice. As to children’s literature works, the translator not only ought to make sure the translation is faithful to the original text and acceptable by the target readers, but also keep the same language features and style,in order to help target readers gain the same understanding and feeling as readers of the original language. But it is self-evident that English is distinguished from Chinese in grammar, words, sentences and culture. Therefore, apt rewritings are necessary.Only with the help of patronage, such as the press, can the translation be brought into the target market. So the translator converts both patronage’s requirement and their own ideology into translation. In this report, typical examples are selected to demonstrate how to use different strategies to manipulate translation with the guard of Manipulation Theory,to achieve spirited translation and faithful translation.
