Monographic Research On The Historical Geography Of The Shiyang River Basin

This thesis focus on the environmental evolvement in the middle and downstream area of the Shiyang river basin.By combining research methods of historical geography and physical geography,taking advantage of the previous research,this paper gives system descriptions of the evolution of the names of the Shiyang river and terminal lakes in Shiyang river basin.The name of Shiyang river had changed many times.It named Hu’nu before the Han Dynasty,and during the Han Dynasty,it is called Gushui.In Northern Wei Dynasty,it named Macheng River.The name of Baiting River appeared in the Five Dynasties,and the Wujiangushui appeared in the North Song Dynasty,then the river named Sancha River in the Ming Dynasty.The name of Shiyang River came forth in the eraly Qing Dynasty,since then,Shiyang River began to be the generic name for the river in the basin gradually.The evolvement of the terminal lakes of Shiyang River can be approximately divided into four phases,starting with the earliest,they are phases of Zhuyeze,Duyeze,Baitinghai and Qingtuhu.The terminal lakes were originally a huge unified lake.Then it split into two parts during the Zhuyeze period,and the two parts didn’t have exact names until the Northern Wei Dynasty.After the Sui Dynasty,the terminal lakes continued to divide into several small lakes and Baiting Sea was the most famous.Qingtu Lake was the last terminal lake of Shiyang River,which dried up completely in the 1950 s.
