Studying Chinese near-synonym has become a focal point for Thai students.For Thai students who have high Chinese proficiency,the close meaning of the words causes many problems.The difficultly of the Chinese near-synonym discrimination also generates many mistakes for Thai students during acquisition and attainment sessions.In recent years,the Chinese near-synonym has become a hot issue of study.The complication between Chinese and Thai adjectives creates a need for more comprehensive detailed research.This study of near-synonymous adjectives will be based on error distribution within three planes:semantic,pragmatic and syntactic.This research method is based on comparative analysis in both languages by utilizing antonym analysis and synonym discrimination to investigate the acquisition and the errors that occurred for the advanced level Thai students.Considering the importance of the Chinese proficiency test,the target words in the questionnaire were selected from the Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level 5 and Level 6 in order to identify the level of the learners.The results indicate that the error rate is quite small.Through the questionnaire,there are only 5 questions which demonstrate the error rate of more than 50%.However,an overall analysis shows that the understanding of the student in each aspect is not collaborative.Thus implying that the difference between both languages is the main reason that causes most errors.The most of the error is the misuse of the adjectives.Therefore,the basis of errors can be classified into two parts.The first part is related to the learners’ language knowledge,the second part is related to the learners’individual factors.For the first part,learners’ language knowledge can be separated into the target language and mother language does not corresponding and the corresponding between the target language and mothertounge.The latter part,the learners’ individual factors can be divided into the learners learning method,attitude and the basis of the learners’ Chinese.Among those three aspects,the learner can understand the pragmatic aspect.The last part of this thesis will localize on the learners’ problems and provide guidance for the writer’s research the proposed near-synonyms’teaching suggestion.In near-synonym teaching suggestion,the writer will ascertain the information from the students’ aspect in regards to the difficulty in studying near-synonyms and the methodology of studying near-synonyms.Hopefully,this thesis will provide some useful information for Chinese and Thai near-synonym teaching strategies and provide some benefits for advanced level Thai students and academic referencing.
