During the Japanese Edo period,the connection between Japan and China,which is under the government of Qing Dynasty at that time,as well as the propagation of Chinese poetry to Japan,is booming to a great extent.Many poems written by Qing poets were released on Japanese magazines and got read,modeled after,criticized and discussed by Japanese.The 3 most influential categories in the Qing poetry are Artistic Style School,Texture School and Xing Ling(which are relevant to spirituality).Yuan Mei is famous as a Xing Ling poet with distinct standpoint,outstanding talent and lots of followers.He himself as well as his poems,not only became very popular among Qing people,but also brought significant and profound influence to Janpan during later Edo period through the propagation of studying Chinese poetry.This paper summarizes the influence of Yuan Mei’s poetry in Japan via studying and analyzing a large amount of literature.Moreover,this paper provides a view and study of how Yuan’s poems and values are received by and create influence on Japanese poetry.The paper also compares Japanese and Chinese cultures and tries to provide inspiration and enlightenment.This study attempts to reveal how poetry learn from each other and evolve in cross-culture communication,and are beneficiary to providing readers a general view of the history and development of East Asia literature.The contents of each section as listed as follows:The introduction provides context of our study and introduction of Yuan Mei and his achievements in poetry.We also explain how we select the topic of our study,the current stage and trend of relevant researches,the values that this study possesses,moreover,provides sources and references for this study,which includes the aim,thoughts,methodology and approach to resources,and points out the possible improvements for the study.In the first chapter,the influence of Yuan’s poetry in Japanese late Edo period are discussed.The Japanese authors follow the tradition of studying Chinese culture and history,putting emphasis on Chinese poetry tradition and fashion.The Japanese poets’values of passing on knowledge on poetry via teachers,parents and friendship with China promotes the influence of Chinese poetry and literature on Japanese.Also,the competition among different Chinese literature categories led to prevalent discussion in Japan.During this time,Yuan’s achievements,values and his Xing Ling theory became really popular in Japan.In the second chapter,we provide discussions on the propagation and adoption of Notes on Poets and Poetry in Suiyuan in Japanese literature,which can be inferred from the emerging of literature and near-literature books,the learn of the popularity of Notes on Poets and Poetry in Suiyuan by Japanese scholars,the quotation of the book and its characters and plots,the critics,explanations and thoughts of the values proposed by that book by Japanese scholars.The most-complimentary echo of Notes on Poets and Poetry in Suiyuan by Japanese scholars are they will construct literature corresponding to the values conveyed in the book.In the third chapter,we discussed the influence of the Collection of Poems and Essays of Xiaocang Mountain House in Japanese literacy.Japanese mimic the format of Yuan’s poems to discuss poems in poems,discuss poems in articles,using quotations and similar topics as well as rhythms to Yuan’s poems.In terms of content,discuss,criticize the thoughts in Yuan’s Collection of Poems and Essays,use stories,symbolism,and exploration to conform to Yuan’s poems.The most-complimentary comprehension of Collection of Poems and Essays by Japanese scholars are they will write poems and articles corresponding to the thoughts and ideas conveyed in the book.In the fourth chapter,we discuss the influence of Things that Confucius won’t say in Japanese literature.This book takes advantage of the stories of supernatural beings to allude to human beings,not only making up stories but expresses concerns about civilians.This book is inclusive,enlightened,insightful,and showing the opinion of Xingling.The influence of this book can be seen in some supernatural literature like Talking about Ghost Besides Night Window&Japanese Qixie and Talking about Ghost and the Strange.The difference,however,lies in the culture of China and Japan as well as the experiences of authors.The fifth chapter summarizes the influence and inspiration of Yuan’s literature on cross-culture connection and study of Chinese.In terms of connection with Japan,we should take advantage of East Asia culture circle and focus on the common values shared by our cultures.In terms of culture influence,we should retain the diversity of multi-cultures and multi-viewpoints to be empathetic.As for the transmission of cultures,we should have our original and distinct thoughts.From the standpoint of the cultural mission,we should think of long-term benefits and processes enthusiasm rather than being profit-oriented.In terms of knowledge propagation,we are supposed to put emphasis on literature,poetry and culture.
