A Study On Noun-verb-measure-word Of Modern Chinese

In modern Chinese,in addition to the typical noun-measure-word and the typical verb-measure-word,there are also the middle part with two grammatical functions,which is prone to ambiguity,this article referred to as noun-verb-measure-word.This paper describes and analyzes the formation mechanism of noun-verb-measure-word from the perspectives of semantic orientation,syntactic function and pragmatic features,so as to deepen people’s understanding of measure word.The contents of each section are as follows:This paper first defines the concept of modern Chinese noun-verb-measure-word,explains the reason for selecting the topic and the research value,summarizes the current academic research status of this topic,seeks theoretical support from grammaticalization and cognitive linguistics,and introduces the research methods along with corpus sources of this paper.Secondly,this paper describes,sorts out and classifies noun-verb-measure-word,and divides them into A,B and C according to their sources,levels and usages.Class A noun-verb-measure-word have a fixed use as nominal and momentum are usually distinct,with obvious tendency in use.Class B noun-verb-measure-word are easier to generate ambiguous analysis when in the middle of the structure "verb+numeral+measure word+noun",as their collocation verbs and nouns are semantically highly correlated.Class C noun-verb-measure-word matched with the noun with dynamic meaning,so it is difficult to judge which kind is more inclined to.B and C are the focus and difficulty of this paper.At the same time,according to the time sequence of quantifiers,it is divided into two kinds:the noun-verb-measure-word in existing ones and the new ones.Next,this paper examines the semantic characteristics of noun-verb-measure-word.It is found that the noun-verb-measure-word have semantic double-fingered phenomenon,that is,the semantics point to both the verb predicate and the noun object.The quantity phrases of the noun-verb-measure-word have different distributions before and after the verbs,showing the characteristics of asymmetry.The quantity structure before the verb is a structure with various pragmatic functions.It has the function of highlighting the situation feature of the event,expressing the subjective quantity of the event,and generally serving as the second topic or topic focus of the sentence at the beginning of the sentence.The quantity structure,which appears after the verb,is relatively unitary and usually expresses the objective quantity of the event.Then this paper investigates the syntactic features of noun-verb-measure-word.It is found that the quantity phrases composed of noun-verb-measure-word can be mainly used as complement,adverbial modifier,attribute,subject and object,and the quantity noun structure can serve as the subject and object of a sentence.For noun-measure-word,the prominent syntactic function is as attributive,while for verb-measure-word,the prominent syntactic function is as adverbial modifier,while noun-verb-measure-word can present ambiguous analysis in special structures.In addition,different nominal and momentum words also have different priorities and tendencies.Under the influence of network environment,the ambiguous analysis of emerging noun-verb-measure-word show an increasing trend.This paper also examines the pragmatic features of noun-verb-measure-word.It is found that it can be flexibly applied to a variety of speech dialogue scenes and can mark the phenomenon of noun usage.In addition to being the focus of sentences,the emerging noun-verb-measure-word can better reflect the functions of language defamiliarization,highlighting function and cultural attribute.Highlighting function is to highlight the characteristics of things.Specifically,the function of cultural attribute is to adjust the language color,reduce the degree of derogatory meaning,and present the characteristics of lively and humorous spoken language as a whole.Finally the paper explains the reason of ambiguous analysis of noun-verb-measure-word from the perspective of the mutual selection mechanism among verbs,nouns and measure words and the continuity mapping of event categories.It is argued that the particularity of language types,the economic principles of linguistics,and the influence of language contact provide impetus for the emergence and development of cross-measure-word.The grammaticalization process of quantifiers involves the structural adjustment and semantic extension.The same measure word can have different evolutionary trajectories,which brings the intersection of cross-measure-word.
