The music media is experiencing rapid development.Listening to music is not only pleasant and enjoyable,but also significant and helpful to college students’ mental health and emotion-focused therapy(EFT).The subjects of this research are music major and non-music major college students.By studying their music-listening habits and how these habits influence their emotions,the author of this paper offers in-depth study and reflections on how to listen to music in an effective and efficient manner in order to awake the listener’s positive emotions as much as possible.In reading and studying domestic and foreign literature,the author discovers that there isn’t much study on the relation between music listening habits and their emotional influence.This thesis uses Pleasure-Arousal Dominance(PAD)three-dimensional emotional model to explore the relationship between PAD three-dimensional emotion and the music listening habits of both music major and non-music major university students.conducts reasonable analysis of the results,and offers a strategy to effective and efficient music listening.Given the contents and objectives of the research,the author adopts a research approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative research.Research objectives are university students,including music major and non-music major.Research data is gathered from 322 effective questionnaires.The author uses SPSS25.0 as data research software.The research concludes that college students of different majors have distinctive differences in their music listening habits.These differences lie in objectives of listening to music,requirement of sound quality,attentiveness to music and music preferences.The conclusion also shows that these factors have obvious and various levels of influences on the PAD three-dimensional emotion of college students of different majors.This research contains six parts.The first chapter is introduction which introduces the background,significance,objectives and questions of the research.The second chapter is literature review which sets the concept,theoretical framework and introduces the current situation of relevant domestic and foreign research.The third chapter is about research approaches,including the decision of research subjects,introduction to measurement tool and description of research process and research results.The fourth chapter is research results which gives a general presentation of sample data,differences in music listening habits of college students of different majors,and the influence of music listening habits on the three-dimensional emotion of these students.The fifth chapter is conclusion,presenting the analysis and summary based on research results.The sixth chapter is the limitations and future studies of this research and the author’s reflections on the thesis.
