Connotation meaning is the specific image sense,emotional attitude,and style contained in the word which is part of the meaning of the word.It is not equivalent to the connotation of the speech,the former is static and the latter is dynamic.And it is not the same as rhetoric meaning,ethier.Connotation meaning is conventional.It can be mainly divided into image connotation,emotional connotation,and language style connotation.Image connotation is a kind of meaning that words can activate sensory experience to cause shared,recognized imagination,and association towards objective image and feature.The generation of the connotation meaning requires an objective,linguistic,and psychological foundation.The image connotation of new words is generated by metaphor,exaggeration,metonymy,and description among which the metaphor and description form are the majority.From the perspective of word formation,the image connotation of the new words is generated by partial structure,joint structure,supplementary structure,subject-predicate structure,and verb-object structure among which the partial structure and verb-object structure are the maj ority.The image connotation mixed with the rational meaning of the word can be called dominant connotation,while the opposite one is called recessive connotation.Among the new added words,most of the words with image connotation are verbs and nouns,and the content reflected by words is mainly the nature of things.Emotional connotation is the part of the meaning that can reflect subjective emotional attitude and evaluation.It is dependent,diverse,stable,and can be shared by the same language group.The division should be further refined instead of being limited to positive or negative.The emotional connotation of the new words is mainly generated by the rational meaning of the words,the morphemes of the affixes,and the subjective cognition of human beings.Besides,the emotional connotation of some new words presents a colorful phenomenon.Language style connotation is divided into spoken connotation and written connotation.Among the new words,the number of written words is more than the spoken words.
