| This is a Chinese-English translation report. The report has Spring Breeze as the source text of the translation. It is a local novel written by a well-known Chinese writer Ge Fei.The translator selected the first chapter for translation.Taking a look at the fate of the individual coupled with the changes happened to the family and the village,it mainly tells about the history of villages in the south of the Yangtze River more than half a century, and the story itself is a farewell to the lost hometown and the dead. The novel is one that contains much of Chinese traditional culture.Based on this characteristic in the source text, the translator selects Susan Bassnett’s cultural translation theory as a guide. The report illustrates the difficulties and key points encountered in the translation process, analyzes the typical translation cases, and adopts various translation methods such as transliteration, addition and free translation. This paper deals with some translation strategies on the basis of analyzing the different cultural elements. Thus,in terms of translation, attention should be paid to the cultural connotation rather than just to the equivalence at the language level.Only in this way can the translation meet the basic requirements of faithfulness, expressiveness and achieve the aim of spreading the culture. |
