A Report On The Translation Of Missing Wolves Based On Cultural Translation Theory

Cultural translation has received a lot of attention in recent years.Folk custom in the folk literature,on the one hand,can make the work readable,and on the other hand,can evaluate its art value.The translation of folk literature can help people remember local culture and spread our native culture to the world.Until 1980s,cultural translation has got its new development,because Susan Bassnett assumes that translation unit should be based on culture instead of discourse.Based on Susan Bassnett’s cultural translation theory,the report aims to take the novel,Missing Wolves written by Chinese writer,Jia Pingwa as the translation practice,attempting to discuss the translation of folk literature for the purpose of giving suggestions to the translation of folk literature and improving the translation quality of folk literature.There are three major challenges in the translated text.For the reporter,the initial challenge is to find out right ways of Jia Pingwa’s writing style based on expressing the information Though literature is global,yet it is also local.How to make Chinese characteristics in Jia Pingwa’s novel known to foreign readers is the second challenge.The last challenge is the application of cultural translation theory into practice.These three challenges faced by the translator are the problems to be solved during the process of translating the text.How to make the readers sense Jia Pingwa’s writing style is what the translated text adopts the appropriate translation strategies in the translation processBesides,appropriate translation strategies are adopted under the guidance of cultural translation theory to deal with problems of language presentation.Moreover,Susan Bassnett’s Translation,History and Culture and some other relevant books are relied to solve the local culture translation.Further study is still needed due to the lack of current version of Missing Wolves,and the translator’s subjectivity in understanding the cultural translation theory is very necessary,too.The report aims to inspire more translators to translate Chinese literature for the purpose of reserving and spreading Chinese culture to the world.
