Discourse markers are widely used in daily communication,and properly using these can effectively improve the efficiency of verbal communication.Therefore,studying discourse markers is of important theoretical and practical value.At present,the academic circles does not pay enough attention to this discourse marker.Compared with the same type of discourse markers "wo gao su ni" and "wo gen ni shuo",the discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo" does not get enough attention,which leads to the "asymmetry of research".But it is commonly used in daily oral communication,and has its own characteristics,which cannot be ignored.This paper takes the discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo",which is commonly used in modern Chinese,as the research object,and tries to analyze it from the perspectives of judgment,function,and formation.The paper consists of five chapters:The first chapter is introduction,which mainly explains the research purpose and significance,research objects and contents,relevant research status,research methods and corpus sources of this paper.The description of this part is to pave the way for the research of this paper.The second chapter is mainly to study the judgment and related features of "ni ting wo shuo" as a discourse marker,including the discourse distribution,co-occurrence components and variant forms of the discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo".After analysis,we think that "ni ting wo shuo" conforms to the characteristics of discourse markers,so we put it as a discourse marker.The discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo"can be at either the beginning or the middle of the turn,and it basically does not appear at the end of the turn;usually it occurs with negative components such as "don’t" and "no";due to the different usage habits of language users and the language environment they are in,the discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo" can also be used flexibly,so there are many variations including "ni ting wo shuo tell you","ni ting wo shuo",etc.Sometimes it is used in conjunction with tone words such as "ni ting wo shuo a " and so on.The third chapter analyzes the pragmatic function of the discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo".First of all,in terms of pragmatic functions,there are three main functions:discourse organization,metapragmatics,and interpersonal interaction.The organizing function in discourses of "ni ting wo shuo" mainly includes start topics,content cohesion and conversion,etc.;the meta-pragmatic function is mainly to inform communicative information and explain the communicative information,etc;the interpersonal interactive function mainly includes persuading the listener and promoting communication process and so on.The paper also briefly introduces the relationship between the two parties in "ni ting wo shuo".According to the content of the information that follows,we can summarize it into two categories and separately emphasize what the speaker says and what shall the listener do.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the formation of the discourse marker"ni ting wo shuo".This chapter presents the discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo" in view of time."ni ting wo shuo" originates from "ru ting wu shuo" in the Tang Dynasty.It was first used to tell the truth,and it did not have multiple pragmatic functions.Till Yuan Dynasty,due to the rise of Vernacular Chinese,it was simplified to "ni ting wo shuo" being commonly used.The written words"ni ting wo shuo" first appeared in the Zaju script of Yuan Dynasty.And actually,the spoken one might be earlier than that.And then the author analyzes the formation mechanism and motivation of the discourse marker "ni ting wo shuo".The formation motivation includes complete syntactic structure,decategorization and pragmatics.The formation mechanism includes subjectivization and re-analysis.Chapter five is conclusion,which is a summary of the whole paper,and it points out the shortcomings and the future research direction of this paper.
