| This paper is based on the simulated simultaneous interpreting practice of Dr.Lisa Su’s speech at Taipei Computex 2019.The practice material,which introduces scientific and technological products,is characterized by abundant professional knowledge in the field of computing technology.In Dr.Lisa Su’s speech,which contains many technical terms,talking speed is fast but the articulation is clear,with no obvious special accent.Long sentences are often used,but the logic is close and expression precise.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,which emphasizes the semantic equivalence between the source text and the target text,this paper selects some typical cases to discuss the interpreting skills adopted to deal with the above-mentioned difficulties during the practice.In order to handle,properly,the long sentences in scientific and technological discourse,while sticking to the purpose of achieving semantic equivalence between the source and target languages,this paper follows three basic principles:syntactic linearity,sentence pause and adjustment,and information reformulation,under which various interpreting tactics are adopted to seek semantic equivalence.Besides,this paper also analyses errors committed during the practice,and finds that most of them are due to insufficient preparation before the interpreting practice.Based on the Interpretive Theory,the author practices the interpreting of technological speech,and tries to deal with the long sentences with different interpreting skills.With the analysis of the typical cases and the errors,it is expected that this research will provide reference for interpreters to cope with similar situations. |
