| As a kind of new energy, laser has developed rapidly since it was invented. It has been widely used in many fields and has become an extremely important tool in industrial production, scientific detection and modern military warfare. However, while enjoying the benefits of laser,we cannot ignore the harm and accidents caused by it.This translated material is an excerpt from Understanding Laser Accidents by Ken Barat, and discusses some laser accidents as well as many safety precautions.Currently, translation studies on texts of such kind are rather few, which has restrained the wide use of laser technology. Therefore, this translation report does carry certain academic and practical value.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence, this report focuses on the translation strategies of English for science and technology. It consists of four chapters.Chapter One introduces the translation task, which includes the features, background and significance about the source text.Chapter Two is about the description of the whole task process, which includes the preparations before translation, the translation process and quality control.Chapter Three,as the core part of this report, from the perspective of functional equivalence, studies the strategies and methods of the translation of scientific texts at lexical, syntactic and discourse level.Chapter Four gives a summary of the whole translation report as well as the unsolved problems.By analyzing E-C translation of some concrete examples,it is expected that the research can attract the attention of laser researchers and industrial laser users. It is also hoped that this report can provide references for the translation of English literature in the field of laser. |
