Environmental problems have become increasingly severe in major cities and industrial areas in recent years. If they are mishandled when environmental emergencies occur in these sectors,it will bring huge losses to the country and its local people. The open lecture course chosen in this interpreting practice is about the counter-measures to cope with sudden environmental pollution accident, excerpted from an open lecture course called "Emergency Plan for Sudden Environmental Pollution Accident".This source material belongs to informative text in science and technology.Through the consecutive interpreting of this open lecture course, foreign scholars could benefit a lot from it.There are four chapters in this report. The first chapter is the task description, including the introduction to the source material, the purpose, and the significance of the study. The second chapter is the process description of the task. The whole interpretation process is divided into three parts:pre-interpreting,during interpreting, and post-interpreting.The third chapter is the case analysis, first of all,it puts forward three problems:lack of customs information,run-on sentences and de-verbalization,and then introduces the interprete’s solutions to the three problems. The fourth chapter is self-reflections,which mainly summarizes the interpreter’s self-evaluation in the practice of interpreting. The Chinese-English interpreting practice is completed under the guidance of interpretive theory. The findings of this present interpreting project are:(1)If there is a lack of information in Chinese speaker’s speech, supplement strategies should be adopted to make the meaning of a sentence more complete;(2)When there comes a Chinese run-on sentence in Chinese-English interpreting process, the strategy of splitting and merging should be adopted to make the interpreting more logical;(3)During the process of language reconstruction, such strategies as substitution and omission should be used to transform the information in the source speech. It is hoped that the interpreter could apply the above strategies to future his/her practice.
