The rapid growth of cities has brought with it a range of water issues. As a less-polluted water resource, rainwater can be used for domestic and industrial production after simple treatment. Therefore,it is also an effective measure to improve the utilization of urban rainwater resources and build water efficient cities. In the field of urban stormwater treatment design, scholars at home and abroad have made certain research results. However, there are currently not many translations available on this subject. The translator translates this material with practical translation experience, hoping that through this translation practice can make people understand and realize the complexity and serious challenges of water resources issues, and also has a high reference value and enlightenment for solving the design of urban rainwater treatment in China,so the Chinese translation of this text is of great practical value. The first four core chapters of the book "The Impact of Transportation and Land Use on Urban Stormwater Quality:Implications for Urban Stormwater Treatment Design" were selected for this translation exercise.Based on translation practice, this report analyzes and examines the translation methods and techniques of scientific and technical texts from the perspective of functional parity, and consists of four chapters:the first chapter is a translation task description, which introduces the source of the text, the research significance, and the text characteristics. The second chapter is the translation process, which mainly covers pre-turn preparation, the translation process and quality control.Chapter 3 is the core part of this translation practice report.Under the guidance of functional theory,we analyze the typical cases in the source text from the three levels of vocabulary, syntax and paraphrase, and explore how to flexibly apply translation strategies and methods to solve problems,so that the translation will be faithful to the original text in terms of language style and text structure, and convey the information of the original text more accurately, objectively and professionally,so that the translation will meet the reading habits of the target audience and be more easily accepted by readers.Chapter 4 summarizes the lessons learned and shortcomings of this translation practice. The report is intended to shed some relevant light on model developers, decision makers, and designers of stormwater treatment systems. It is also hoped that this translation will contribute to the improvement of the quality of translations of scientific and technical texts and serve as a reference for other translators.
