A Report On E-C Translation Of Vehicle-to-Grid:A Sociotechnical Transition Beyond Electric Mobility(Excerpt)

Vehicle-to-Grid(hereafter referred to as V2G)is a new grid technology which is low-carbon and environmentally friendly.The study of V2G technology is still at an initial stage in China,however,some foreign countries have conducted frontier research.Therefore,translation study on V2G text is of great significance.This translation report takes Vehicle-to-Grid:A Sociotechnical Transition Beyond Electric Mobility as the research object,and the translator excerpts chapter 3 "The Technical Challenges to V2G" and chapter 4 "The Economic and Business Challenges to V2G"as the source text.Based on Katherine Reiss’s Text Typology Theory,the translator completes the translation task.The report is mainly divided into four parts.The first part is task description,including the background,source and features of the source text as well as the purposes and significance of the task.The second part is translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and quality control.The third part is the discussion about translation methods and strategies under the guidance of Text Typology Theory.At lexical level,the translator applies literal translation,free translation and conversion to the translation of acronyms,terminology and noun phases about V2G;at syntactic level,the translator discusses the translation methods of passive sentences,long and complex sentences,and adopts retaining passive voice and conversion to deal with passive sentences,and applies linear translation together with division to the translation of long and complex sentences;at discourse level,conjunction and reiteration are adopted to keep coherence of discourse.Lastly,the translator summarizes the reflection and experience in the translation practice.Through the translation task,the translator realizes that the sci-tech texts like V2G genre fall into informative texts which focus on the delivery of the information.Under the guidance of Text Typology Theory,the translator can apply the relevant translation methods and strategies to achieve the delivery of translation accurately.Finally,the translator hopes that she can get a deeper understanding of the translation of sci-tech texts and enhance the translation ability.
