Energy is an important basic resource for the development of human society.However,with the development of the world economy and the increasing demand of the world energy,the energy competition is becoming increasingly fierce.Therefore,the development and utilization of renewable energy has been paid more attention by governments all over the world.In this report,the translator selected the eighth chapter of Renewable Energy in the UK:Past,Present and Future as source text.As a non-market force,the UK government plays an important role in promoting the implementation of the renewable energy strategy and pays more attention to the systematic and coordinated development from the aspects of the strategic management mechanism,law system and technology research,which has great reference value for the development of renewable energy in China.Four chapters are included in the report,with the third one "Case Analyses at Syntactic Level" as most important.The first part is the task description,and the second part is the process description.The source text is difficult to understand because it involves many aspects of history,politics,energy science and so on.In addition,the source text has prominent difficulties in sentence structures and distinct syntactic features,so the translator mainly focuses on syntactic level.Case analyses are made from the views of passive sentences,relative clauses and long and complex sentences.In view of these difficulties,the translator uses such corresponding translation techniques as conversion,reverse translation,interpolation,amplification,sequential translation and recombination to convey the original information truthfully.Finally,the translation summary is reported.Functional Equivalence Theory is an essential theoretical basis in this report.Translation work is not done in one day.From the translation preparation,understanding,expression and proofreading,each step should be more accumulation and more practice.And the translator should also know the truth between theory and practice.Through the completion of this translation practice,the translator is more clearly aware of the importance of rich vocabulary and good understanding of contextual English sentence.It enriches the translation skills of EST text and provides refence and help for researchers in related field.
