| Based on the social reality of Afghanistan from the 1950 s to the beginning of the 21 st century,The Kite Runner(2003),A Thousand Splendid Suns(2007)and And the Mountains Echoed(2013)by Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini(1965-)focus on the loss and construction of Hazaras,Afghan women and Afghan emigrant’s national ethical identity.In Hosseini’s three novels,Hazaras struggle to survive under the oppression of powerful ethnic group.Some Afghan women lack awareness of Afghanistan’s situation and some are deprived of opportunities to serve country under the oppression of patriarchy.Afghan emigrants are on the fringe of native and foreign culture.In the complex reality of Afghanistan,the above groups of people fall into the dilemma of national ethical identity.Therefore,Hosseini points out that maintenance of familial ethics,establishment of Afghan’s national cultural community,and reconciliation of opposing groups in Afghanistan are premise of the construction of Afghan’s national ethical identity.Mainly based on the ethical literary criticism,this thesis puts forward the concept of national ethical identity.This concept is derived from the term of ethical identity.Taking this as the entrance,this thesis comprehensively analyzes the issue of individual’s identification with nation in Hosseini’s Afghan trilogy and states that the construction of individual’s national ethical identity is the key to the national identification and national reconstruction of Afghanistan. |
